My dog has pancreatitis. Is bloody stool normal on medication?

I’m assuming she is defecating frequently and not urinating. If so you might want to see if your vet wants to add in any medications for diarrhea/colitis. Sometimes an antibiotic for bacterial overgrowth can be helpful. If you have already exhausted treatment options or if your vet is not optimistic about Bella’s recovery then it may be time to discuss euthanasia.

Poor Robin! I can see that her stool has some frank good in it. This can be caused by inflammatory bowel disease, ulcers, chronic foreign bodies, as well as pancreatitis. Intestinal parasites and viruses such as parvovirus can cause this as well. A change in diet may help, but I recommend discussing ruling out the conditions above with your veterinarian. Hi there. Switching to a bland diet was a great idea. As far as home remedies, there isn't much else to try. It's good that she is no longer vomiting, but make sure she is closely monitored for signs of lethargy, further vomiting, diarrhea, etc.

If you are seeing continuing blood, this likely means Togi is not completely normal yet. Dogs should not have blood in their stool. Togi should be examined by the veterinarian. Ask about parasite testing (both worms and protozoal). I'm not sure what medication he had but pets are often given and antibiotic and a probiotic as well as a bland diet if bacteria is suspected. Sometimes a special diet is used (a hydrolyzed protein) if a food allergy is suspected but typically food allergy does not cause bleeding in the gut. Lastly, your veterinarian may want to have an x-ray to look for a foreign object in the intestines. I hope this helps and that they figure out the cause quickly.

I’m glad to hear you got Grace in for care so quick. It sounds like she is on the right track and recovering. The soft bowel movements may or may not be a problem. If they are soft, but formed and she doesn’t have an increased urgency to get outside to go, then it may just be the high fiber that is in some prescription diets we might give for pancreatitis. I’m not clear on which of the Hills diets she was prescribed, but the changes to her stool could simply be food related. That being said - if her stool is not formed and is more like a cow pie, or if she does have to go out frequently then she should be rechecked sooner than later. Sometimes there is a trial and error to find the “right” food for a patient, and we have to try different prescription diets to find what they do best eating. Either way, her stool should be formed, and if it continues, a visit to your veterinarian is warranted.

This could be completely normal and possibly due to a mild residual abdominal discomfort due to the pancreatitis. It could be completely normal, but of course needs monitoring as if persistent may need to be checked at your local vets. If that is the case some pain relief medications may be needed.

If she is on medications that were prescribed by your veterinarian for treatment of pancreatitis, then yes she should continue to receive her medications as long as she is eating. Pancreatitis is generally a painful condition so it is recommended to ensure that she receives pain control medications while her pancreas improves. Keeping my fingers crossed for a speedy recovery!
