Why is my newly adopted rescue dog's urine pale pink after puppies?

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Congratulations on adopting Bella!!! If she is acting normally, most likely she has urinated and you didn't see her do it. I would think that if she was having some urinary issue you would notice some signs such as straining, licking her perineal area, possibly scooting. I would watch her closely and make sure she is not urinating in the house when no one is looking or make sure that where she lays, you don't find a urine soaked area. Good luck with Bella.

That may be due to a urinary tract infection/inflammation (UTI). Urine analysis and a check up would be needed to confirm or rule out this clinical suspicion and give appropriate treatment. The UTI could come from the bladder, urethra, urethers or even kidneys. It is unlikely to be related to the genital tract.

Constantly leaking urine is most concerning of incontinence, but I'm almost certain that this would have been noticed while in the shelter and the dog would not have been adopted if this was discovered. More likely, this is a recent urinary infection that happened to occur around adoption time. The SPCA is usually good at offering free vet services within two weeks of adoption. I recommend calling them soon and scheduling an appointment. They will be able to help find the cause of this and offer the best treatment. I hope that helps and all is well with Sassy. Make sure she is going regularly and not having to hold it too long and that she is getting plenty of fluids. The discoloration and increase in frequency can be signs of a urinary infection. Since everything else is normal, you do not need to get her seen as an emergency tonight, but do recommend a urine sample at your vet as this can make house training more difficult and be uncomfortable for her if left untreated.

I would have Bella seen by a vet immediately. She could be suffering from a pyometra, which would cause her to be lethargic, shiver from pain, have the brownish discharge, and drink and urinate a lot. A pyometra is fatal without treatment, so she should be seen by a vet now. A UTI or bladder stones are other differentials for her symptoms, but the risk is of a pyometra is high. The vet can do a physical exam, blood tests, urinalysis, and x-rays to diagnose what is causing her symptoms so she can be treated. If she does have a pyometra, spaying her is part of the recommended treatment. Please take her into a vet now.

Poor Kai! There could be a urine infection or crystals in the urine. Certain toxins can also cause this as well. I recommend to have him examined by the Veterinarian today. Try to collect a sample of that urine with a syringe to take to the appointment. Best of luck and please feel free to post any additional questions.

If she has bladder stones, she needs to have them removed because they will irritate the lining of the bladder causing bleeding and other complications. Once the stones are removed, they can have them tested to determine what kind of stones they are and can put Puffy on a special diet to help prevent them from forming again. I would also recommend having her spayed at the same time to prevent a life-threatening infection that can occur within the uterus causing her to need emergency surgery. There is a chance the blood in the urine is coming from her uterus but if a vet saw stones in the bladder, that is more likely. Good luck and kisses to Puffy!
