My pug has painful, bleeding paw blisters. What should I do?

Even though a picture would help to understand better the underlying cause, this presentation could be due to a trauma (presence of foreign bodies) or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). Allergic reactions can cause them as well in rare cases. A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. If the problem is related to the presence of foreign bodies then a quick surgical procedure (sometimes even under local anesthetic) is needed to remove them. Disinfection can eventually be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking. Poor Gizmo! That looks really sore. The lesion in the picture could be an abscess, a very large interdigital cyst or a tumor. I would recommend that you have Gizmo seen by your veterinarian. They may recommend a fine needle aspirate of the lesion to get a better idea of what is causing the swelling. Surgery may be required to lance and drain the abscess or remove a mass if present.

Tumors on the toes can aggressively appear and spread like this, and other issues such as burns, blisters, cysts, sores, infections, etc should be treated by your vet. They can take a sample of the affected tissue to look for the cause behind it, and provide treatment options such as removal, antibiotics, medicate shampoos, and more. Until you can get to your vet, it's best to keep the area clean and dry and to keep Bossy from licking at it with an Elizabethan (cone) collar. This can help reduce irritation.

Poor Hugo! Underlying causes of these types of cystic lesions can include allergies, foreign material lodged into tissue, and immune mediated conditions, all of which can become infected with bacteria and/or yeast. Hugo should be examined by his vet because he will likely need an antibiotic or antifungal medication either orally or as a topical foot soak.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Dutchess. She may need to see a veterinary dermatologist if you are not having much luck with her regular veterinarian. Paws are commonly affected by allergic skin disease. This can be an environmental allergy or a dietary allergy. Some dogs suffer from both. I recommend allergy testing to environmental allergens such as weeds, pollens, grasses and molds specific to your area. She should also do a prescription diet trial for 8-12 weeks. She may require longterm management of her symptoms. However, reaching a diagnosis will make this easier. I hope this information helps!

Hello. I really do not think this is something that you can fix by yourself. From your pictures, it looks like a tumor of some kind so it should be examined by a veterinarian as soon as you do so. In the meantime, you could just keep the area clean using a product called Hibiclens ( available at all pharmacies ), but I would have Chloe's foot looked at to determine the cause of the lesion. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign.
