My dog has a squishy blister on her paw. Can I treat it at home?

This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. Even though a picture would help to understand better the underlying cause, this presentation could be due to a trauma (presence of foreign bodies) or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). Allergic reactions can cause them as well in rare cases. A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. If the problem is related to the presence of foreign bodies then a quick surgical procedure (sometimes even under local anesthetic) is needed to remove them. Disinfection can eventually be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking. Ouch! That should likely be checked out by your vet in person. Tumors on the toes can aggressively appear and spread like this, and other issues such as burns, blisters, cysts, sores, infections, etc should be treated by your vet. They can take a sample of the affected tissue to look for the cause behind it, and provide treatment options such as removal, antibiotics, medicate shampoos, and more. Until you can get to your vet, it's best to keep the area clean and dry and to keep Bossy from licking at it with an Elizabethan (cone) collar. This can help reduce irritation.

If it is bothering Joey enough to cause him to lick it, the first thing you need to do is prevent him from continuing that type of behavior. The best thing you can get for this is an e-collar or cone. While it makes them look ridiculous, they are effective at preventing self-mutilation and worsening infections. You can also make home made ones, which are illustrated for you on You tube. If you are truly dealing with a cyst like structure, these tend to increase in size until the point of rupture, they drain, and then they refill. It is impossible to tell what this is based on this picture, but it certainly might be a cyst. The best way to ascertain the origin of the lesion is with a biopsy or a fine needle aspirate. While a biopsy is certain the gold standard, it is much more invasive and costly than allowing your vet to obtain a needle aspirate. The aspirate will get your vet some cellular material to view on the microscope that will at least give him an idea of whether or not the lesion is something that he/she should be worrying about it. Whether or not this is the route you go with, the area is likely mildly infected and causing Joey some pain. He would probably benefit from antibiotics and pain management. Poor Sriracha (great name, by the way!) . The toes can be a very sensitive area, so I recommend you make an appointment to have Sriracha seen by a veterinarian, as it sounds like it is likely causing her pain. The lesion may indeed resolve itself, but it may be very sore until it does, and it's possible that it will take a very long time to heal or may not heal without medical intervention. Pain medications meant for humans can be very dangerous (and even deadly) for dogs, so I do not recommend giving any to your pup without consulting with your vet. Your veterinarian will perform a thorough exam, and may recommend imaging to check for any fractures or growths that may be causing the swelling. In some cases allergies, trauma, burns or objects embedded in the paw can also be the cause, but the only way to tell is to have Sriracha seen by a vet. Your vet can also prescribe safe medication to help with the pain if needed. Make sure you keep the area clean and dry, and put a cone / e-collar on Sriracha in the meantime to help prevent her from licking the area and making it work. I hope Sriracha feels better soon!

It is hard to tell exactly how big the mass is. It looks like a possible abscess (infection) of cyst. I would recommend taking Bella to a vet for a fine needle aspirate. This is where the vet looks at cells from the mass under the microscope to determine what it is. IF it is an abscess the vet might start antibiotics but if it is a cyst or growth it might need to be surgically removed. It most like will not hurt to soak the food in epson salt baths but it is unlikely to resolve the issue. Also, I would recommend an e-collar(cone) around the head to prevent licking and chewing. IF bella does lick it can make the growth larger or start a bacterial infection

That lesion could be a few things including an injury- like a scrape or infected puncture wound, or flatten skin mass or something like a resolving boil or ingrown hair. If Odin seems comfortable and the area doesn't appear blister-like, swollen or painful, you can try home care. If it looks like anything I just named, he should go to the veterinarians office between now and Monday. At home there are some things you can do which may help to heal the sore. The first thing you need to do is stop the licking (since this can make it worse). Odin should wear an elizabethan collar at all times. Remember that the collar must come out past his nose in order to be effective. Next, wash the area once a day with either plain hand soap (like Dial) or a medicated pet shampoo. This will help to control the number of topical pathogens as well as remove oil and dead skin cells. Rinse the area well and gently towel dry. Lastly, apply a topical antibiotic twice a day. Just a dab will do and rub it in well. Make sure the skin is dry before application. Neosporin is fine to use. Since it's on Odin's foot, he needs to rest and avoid trauma so only short, controlled walks. Also avoid rough surfaces like dry grass which may cause further irritation. If the spot is not much better in 1 week, if it gets worse at any point or if the lesion is not completely healed within 2 weeks, Odin needs to be examined by the veterinarian.
