My dog won't eat or drink after leg injury. Is she depressed?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Hallie! She is possibly not eating due to pain associated with the injury which often times can affect a dog's appetite. Of course other unrelated causes for her not to eat cannot be completely excluded. With these types of injuries, there is usually more trauma than what can be seen from the outside. I recommend that you have Hallie evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They may take radiographs to check her bones in the affected leg. They would be able to check the extent of her injuries and proceed with therapy as indicated. She may require antibiotics, further local wound therapy and pain control medications. Poor Luna! It sounds like she needs to be examined by a vet to determine the cause of her lameness. She could have a strain/sprain, dislocation, or a fracture and your vet can take an x-ray to help diagnose and then determine the best way to treat. She might need an anti-inflammatory, splint, or possibly surgery to treat the problem. Hope she feels better soon!

I'm sorry to hear Brownie is unwell. I am concerned that the pain medicine is causing a stomach upset making him feel nauseous and not want to eat. Many pain medicines can do this as a negative side effect. Stop giving medicine to him and take him back to your vet to discuss what to do. They may need to run a blood test and give him stomach protecting medicine.

This can be a sign that Lucky is sick or injured. Try offering her some boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice. If she refuses to eat this or is still looking sad in the morning, have her seen by a vet.

I am sorry Lucu is not feeling well. I would recommend taking Lucu to the vet to determine if she maybe has an infection at the site of the fracture. It is also possible that she is having a reaction to the antibiotics and might need medications to help calm her stomach. I hope that helps

Poor Lucy. She could be suffering from electrolyte imbalance after labor, an infection in her uterus or mammary glands, a puppy that she never delivered that is now infected or more. You could try to offer her some plain boiled chicken (no bones) and white rice or canned dog food to see if you can entice her to eat. If she won’t eat, I would strongly recommend to have a vet look at her. Your vet will be able to run blood work and even X-rays if needed. They will be able to recommend to best treatment plan for her and get her started on the proper meds (even appetite stimulants) to help her feel better. I hope this helps.

Yes, it is normal, there are several factors here that could influence the appetite. first of all her physical activity decreased significantly which means she does not burn calories thus needs less calories from the food. the second factor could be pain, this can cause a decrease in appetite. the third factor is depression due to the movement restriction, this can also affect the appetite.
