My dog isn't drinking water after vet. How can I get him hydrated?

Hello. I would not be too concerned. Just continue to add water, or low sodium broth to his food. You can also offer him broth or stock ( either beef or chicken ) as a source of liquids. First you will need to make sure that Bruno has a cool place, preferably with A/C. If he is dehydrated your veterinarian can give him fluids under the skin. Feed him some commercial tinned food available from your veterinarian or pet place and add water to it to make a soup or gruel. This will help to get fluid into him. He may have a more serious gastro-intestinal problem so if he is not eating nor drinking, take him back to your veterinary doctor or to another one for a second opinion. Do not offer him milk, or fruit juice, just plain cool fresh water to drink.

She may not have a drive to drink if she received iv fluids during her procedures and you are meeting what she needs through her diet. If she is otherwise happy with normal appetite and energy level and no vomiting or diarrhea you can continue monitoring. If any of these change in addition to not drinking then that would be more concerning as dehydration could ensue. If Tyson is on a wet food, he will be getting moisture from the it (it has a much higher moisture content than dry food), and that's likely why he's not drinking as much. You can add some water to the wet food to get more water into him, but if he's doing ok, no need to take him back into the vet just yet. I hope this helps!

I'm sorry to hear that Romeo isn't feeling as well as normal. Vaccines stimulate the immune system to produce antibodies to protect against disease. As a result, it's pretty common for pets to be fairly sluggish for a day or two after receiving their vaccines while the immune system is hard at work. Some dogs can develop delayed vaccine reactions with some vomiting and diarrhea (and an associated loss of appetite), but it's not very common for their water consumption to be impacted. To answer your question more clearly - no, it's not normal that Romeo hasn't had any water at all today. You can try adding a tiny bit of low sodium chicken broth into his water to make it a little tastier, but be sure to throw it away after an hour or two, as this would otherwise need refrigeration. Another thing to try would be soaking his normal dry food with water for 10 minutes before feeding it to him to maintain his hydration. It doesn't concern me that he's a little sluggish today. However, if it continues tomorrow or if he still isn't drinking normally, you should take Romeo back to his vet to get him checked out. I hope that everything goes well!

It sometimes takes longer than 12 hours for a sick animal to get better. You will still have to try and hand feed her and syringe water into her if possible. If she does not start drinking after 24 hours, then your veterinarian may have to put her on iv fluids. Once she is hydrated she will likely feel less nauseous and will start drinking again and hopefully eating. Keep her comfortable, and tend to her like you would tend to a sick child. Give it some time.

While it is normal to see a period of no pooping after having diarrhea, it is not normal for a dog to not drink water. I am also concerned about Roo getting dehydrated, and I do think it's worth having him seen by a vet. If he is very dehydrated, he will need IV fluids.
