My dog's nose keeps bleeding for a long time. What should I do?

Nose bleeds can occur as a result of trauma, significant rhinitis or inflammation of the nose, high blood pressure, rat poison ingestion, a problem with blood clotting, and/or a possible cancerous cause. How to treat it depends on what the underlying cause is. Koeby should be evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible to determine what the underlying cause is. Dogs can lose a significant amount of blood from their noses and become anemic. There is no at home treatment that is sufficient. I hope this is helpful!

Without knowing his age isn't hard to give you an idea of what could be going on. It could be anything from cancer to an infection to something stuck in his nose. In short-faced breeds, be sure your pet can breathe around the ice pack. The cold will constrict small blood vessels, which will slow the bleeding. If these steps do not stop the bleeding or the pet is having difficulty breathing, see your veterinarian or emergency clinic at once. Remember that a pet with a bloody nose will likely swallow a great deal of blood. This may lead to a black stool (melena) or vomit that contains blood clots (hematemesis). Poor Wrigley. My first thought is a clotting disorder. If this has not been investigated I would recommend having this checked. Also she should be checked for fungal diseases such as blastomycosis (based off of your region). You could also take her to an internal medicine specialist to have them evaluate her. A CT would be recommended if all of these tests come back normal. They would be looking for a defect or mass in her sinuses. I hope you get some answers for her.

Lexus really needs to go see a vet as soon as possible. A long term nose bleed is a medical emergency. My main concerns would be exposure to toxin that might affect his ability to clot his blood. This could be rat poison or another toxin. However a foreign object up his nose, trauma and infection can cause bleeding too. He needs to have blood work to detect if he is clotting his blood and make sure his platelet number is normal. If he will let you apply pressure to his nose and maybe even ice to the bride of the nose to slow the bleeding until you get him into a vet.

Poor pup! I'm assuming you mean hematemesis, which is blood in the vomit. If she is having blood coming from her nose, she is extremely sick and needs to see a vet immediately. I'm not sure what shots she was given, or what she was diagnosed as having, but she could have ingested a toxin or she may have a blood clotting disorder if blood is coming from her nose. She needs medical attention right away, please take her into a vet now.

Nose bleeds that are persistent in an older dog are highly suspicious of cancer or a fungal infection. Trauma to the nose is also possible, but unlikely to result in chronic bleeding episodes. I am so sorry but Bubbalina needs to be seen by your vet right away for testing (Bloodwork +.- radiographs). If cancer is present, then steroids may be recommended to try and slow down the progression and also supportive care can be provided to Bubbalina to hopefully make her more comfortable. A nose bleed could be due to a clotting disorder, high blood pressure, a nasal infection or a nasal tumor. A tooth root abscess could also cause a nose bleed, and I could see how a tooth root abscess might bleed mainly during eating. Any of the other diseases would still be possible as well. Unfortunately I don’t think there is anything specific to do to prevent the nosebleeds from occurring without addressing the underlying cause. You should keep Pirate quiet and calm and could try elevating his food.
