Why is one side of my dog's neck droopy and swollen with fluid?

This is not unusual. Your dog had an edema, which is a collection of fluid in the tissue. Gravity makes the fluid "drop" towards the ground, so it moved to the neck. This is not anything to worry about. It will take a few days to be reabsorbed by the body. If the swelling gets very warm or painful, take MJ back to the vet. If it stays "cool" (the same temperature as the skin around it) and the skin does not turn red and is not painful, you can just wait it out.

Poor Baldric! This swelling could be due to trauma, it could be a lymph node swelling due to a localized infection or tooth problem, a reaction to an insect bite, or it could be an abcess. Given the absence of any additional signs, I would monitor Baldric for now. Should the swelling still be present in the morning, I. Would take him into the vet. If he shows up additional signs tonight such as difficulty breathing, difficulty swallowing, extreme lethargy, or anorexia, then I would take him into a vet right away.

It is a possibility that the tightness of both the collar and cone caused the swelling. I'd keep a close eye on the swelling, and if it gets bigger over the next 24 hours, doesn't go down over the next 48-72 hours, or Max has trouble breathing, take him back into the vet immediately. Best of luck.

It is difficult to know the cause without seeing the swelling. Your dog could have an infection, allergic reaction, injury, or a mass causing the swelling. Your dog really needs to be examined by a vet to determine the cause and then treat the problem. Your dog may need an antibiotic, anti-histamine, anti-inflammatory, or other medications to treat.

A sudden swollen face is usuaally caused by some allergy, either an insect bite or an environmental allergy, or could also be a rattle snake bite. Check for oozing little wounds, there would be a little blood oozing but not coagulating. If you find those on the head, your dog likely was bitten by a snake and needs to be seen by a vet right away. If your dog has breathing problems, vomits or is lethargic, he should also be seen by a veterinarian right away. If he is happy, eats and drinks, you can observe the swelling and it should go down within 24 hours. Of course you can also take him to the vet if he is not in distress. The vet will give him an exam and likely an antihistamine and/or steroid injection.

Hello. This could be some type of allergic reaction. Apply a warm compress to the area twice a day for 10-15 minutes at a time. You will need to keep the water quite warm, but not uncomfortable. You can try and place a cold compress on the area for 2-3 minutes several times a day to see if this helps and lightly massage the area to see if this gets the swelling down. You can also try an anti-inflammatory for dogs, which can be found at your local pet store. I would recommend Well and Good Buffered Aspirin, which can be found at PetCo. If there is no improvement or the swelling increases, I would recommend having Lilly examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made.
