My dog's face swelling dropped to neck after sting. Is it normal?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 7 months and 4 days old | 30 lbs

My dog was stung by something in the face. I took him to the vet and he got a shot. His face is looking better but the swelling looks like it’s drooped into his neck. Do I need to take him back to the vet?

This is not unusual. Your dog had an edema, which is a collection of fluid in the tissue. Gravity makes the fluid "drop" towards the ground, so it moved to the neck. This is not anything to worry about. It will take a few days to be reabsorbed by the body. If the swelling gets very warm or painful, take MJ back to the vet. If it stays "cool" (the same temperature as the skin around it) and the skin does not turn red and is not painful, you can just wait it out.
