My dog had two seizures in 24 hours and can't walk. Is this serious?

It sounds like a small stroke, it could be vestibular disease as well, i would recommend taking him for a checkup today, he should be evaluated to make sure his neurological condition is not damaged.

It's a bit hard to say, but this sounds like seizure activity, especially with the periods of confusion you're describing after the episodes occur. In a 4 year old dog I'd be concerned about epilepsy, although other possibilities such as a poisoning and brain tumors should be considered as well. Roscoe needs to see his vet ASAP in order to find out what is going on, and start treatment. If these are seizures, the longer they go undiagnosed and uncontrolled, the more likely he will have one that he won't come out of. Get him seen ASAP.

It sounds like Flower may be having a seizure. I would recommend to make an appointment with your veterinarian and plan on running some blood work. Bonnie's abnormalities walking and head bobbing this morning sound as though they may have occurred due to a seizure. I'm glad that it only lasted 1-2 minutes, but seizures can have a "post-ictal" period afterwards where the animal can be a bit stressed for another few minutes to hours. Seizures can occur due to a number of reasons, including epilepsy for unknown reasons, toxin exposure, liver shunts (abnormal blood flow and toxin filtration) and brain tumors. For a first time possible seizure, there are generally no necessary treatments or diagnostics. However, closely monitor Bonnie for a recurrent episode. If one occurs, try to video record her actions so that her vet will be able to watch it. Also keep a log of any future episodes with the date, time, duration of possible seizure and any changes in behavior or lifestyle beforehand. If Bonnie ever has 2 or more seizures in a 24 hour period, or has a seizure that lasts for much longer than 5 minutes, she should go to an ER immediately, as this would indicate a "cluster" of seizures and require immediate medication.

I'm sorry you and Jam are experiencing this. Seizures are very scary, especially with big dogs. Right after a seizure, dogs have a period where they are recovering and may seem not totally aware of their surrounds or have trouble walking, hearing, seeing. That usually lasts a few minutes to a few hours. That could be whats going on with Jam tonight. Another possibility is that whatever is causing the seizures is getting worse and starting to damage her brain more leading to the blindness. Seizures in older dogs can be caused by metabolic issues, such as kidney or liver failure, toxins, or brain tumors. I would recommend a veterinarian appointment to run blood work and full neurologic exam. If she's have more frequent seizures, or seems "off" for a long time after the seizures, it would be wise to go to the emergency clinic tonight rather than waiting for your regular veterinarian to be open.
