My dog missed his enapril pill. Is it safe if he skips a dose?

Hello. You do not indicate what medication Lily is on so I cannot really say, but if there is no way to pick up the meds, you will just have to make do. But in general, missing a few doses are fine, unless this is a life saving heart drug. Hello. Do not worry. Missing a dose or two will not set Nyla back nor worsen her condition. Kidney disease & the subsequent blood pressure problems are both chronic conditions, so a few missed doses, while not ideal, will really do her no harm. Just resume the medication as soon as you can. It's very important that Molly gets her enalapril as scheduled, and missing three doses can be harmful to her health. I can't say if she will die or not, but I do think it's best to give her one of the missed doses now (not all three!) and then the next as regularly scheduled. Have her checked out by a vet to be safe in the morning. I hope this helps!

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Ellie should be fine. Missing 3-4 days should not be a critical time period when talking about heartworm prevention. Now missing that dose over longer time periods could potentially cause a problem due to the life cycle of the heartworm and what stages the medicine kills, since the heartworm goes through several larval stages once inside a dog or a cat. The best thing to do in your case is exactly what you did, give the dose as soon as you realize you missed it and of course, contact your vet for their advice. Ellie should be fine.
