My dog with kidney disease missed Enapril. Will blood pressure spike?

Just remember to give him his enapril pill tomorrow as you have done in the past. Missing multiple days in a row may cause a problem but missing one dose is not concerning. It's very important that Molly gets her enalapril as scheduled, and missing three doses can be harmful to her health. I can't say if she will die or not, but I do think it's best to give her one of the missed doses now (not all three!) and then the next as regularly scheduled. Have her checked out by a vet to be safe in the morning. I hope this helps!

Hi there. Cody is a very handsome kitty :) Enalapril's effects are pretty subtle and long-term, so it shouldn't cause any significant issues for him to miss a few doses. Just get his prescription filled when you are able to, and continue the meds as directed once you have them.

Enalapril can affect the kidney values and cause a dog to not eat so your veterinarian is stopping that medication probably to try to get Binx to eat better. Your veterinarian knows his medical history well so they would know well if this was a good decision but that is likely the rationale. I really hope that your boy starts feeling better soon. Although a nose bleed does not appear to be a common side effect since it occurred after starting this medication it would be best to skip a dose until you can talk to your vet. It is also concerning to start a medication like this without having a baseline blood pressure. This would be systemic blood pressure taken like a person with a cuff. This drug has not been studied in cats with extremely high blood pressure and would also be contraindicated with normal blood pressure. Not all cats with kidney disease have high blood and there are numerous causes for protein in the urine. Was the protein loss determined to be significant? In order to know this a test called a urine protein:creatinine ratio is needed. Protein loss in the urine can not be determined as significant based off a screening urinalysis alone. Hello. You do not indicate what medication Lily is on so I cannot really say, but if there is no way to pick up the meds, you will just have to make do. But in general, missing a few doses are fine, unless this is a life saving heart drug. Not to worry - this type of issue happens quite frequently. At this point, I think your best bet is to give Tater-Tot her 11pm enalapril dose early around 8-9pm, and then return her to her normal 11am/11pm schedule tomorrow. Do not give a double dose! If she seems to show signs of congestive heart failure, such as difficulty breathing, trouble settling down, or exercise intolerance, it is worth taking her to a vet urgently. Fortunately congestive heart failure is rarely dramatically exacerbated after missing one dose of medication. I hope this helps and that all goes well!
