Why does my dog have sudden lumps and fluid sacs after Benadryl?

Sometimes in addition to benadryl these dogs do also need steroids, so I would call your vet and let them know about this change because they may want to see her again or to change her medication. I would also consider bathing her in case the hives were a reaction to a plant she came into contact with if she spends time outdoors.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Kyle. You are giving Benadryl plus Congestion. Unless specifically directed to do so by his veterinarian, I would stop this medication. He should be receiving just Benadryl which contains only diphenhydramine. Some dogs will require ongoing doses of steroids to keep the swelling down in the days following the reaction. His veterinarian may prescribe an antibiotic for the wounds that have started as well. I recommend contacting his veterinarian and see if a recheck appointment is necessary to discuss his medication. Hi and thanks for your post on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Oh dear, this sounds like Bella has hives indicating an allergic reactions to something she was exposed to. Please take her into a veterinarian right away for treatment. She will need antihistamines and a steroid. Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Those bumps do not look like a bug bite reaction as but bite reactions are usually haired swellings in the skin. I would be worried that these are an infection or masses of a different type (benign (non-cancerous) masses or more concerningly a cancerous mass). If they popped up quickly then they are more likely infection. I would recommend not giving Benedryl, putting an e-collar on Kelso so that he can't scratch them open, and get him to a vet as soon as possible for testing and medications. Best of luck with Kelso.

Poor baby! Yes, these appear to be hives most likely from an allergic reaction. I would give her 50mg benadryl by mouth and see how she does. If she gets more, starts vomiting, having diarrhea, or trouble breathing I would get her right away. Good luck. She is adorable

Thank you for providing pictures of the affected area. From what I can observe it does not look infected at this stage. i would continue to monitor at home for the time being. Signs of infection would include; Pain Redness- which is growing or spreading Discharge Foul odor Swelling Changes in appetite Vomiting or dirrhoea In the meantime you can apply a cool compress to the bumps forever few hours for the first 24, then switch to a warm compress.
