My dog has a pus-filled bump on his snout. Is it infection? Benadryl?

Hello. A localized swelling like this in a relatively young dog is probably just some kind of allergic reaction. I agree with you that it is probably from an insect sting or bite. If Buddy will allow it, you can apply a cool compress or an ice cube wrapped in a wash cloth for as long as he will tolerate it. If it is not significantly down by tomorrow, you may want your vet to take a look, but there does not seem to be anything very worrisome about this. I see what you mean about the swelling, it is quite pronounced! This could be from a bug bite or it could be an allergic reaction. Oftentimes Benadryl is not strong enough to treat these issues, and stronger drugs like steroids may be needed. The best thing to do for her is take her into a vet immediately to get this treated. The Benadryl should help if she’s itchy but she needs to see a vet to determine if it’s an infection and get her some oral antibiotics if needed. Good luck and kisses to Baby!

In my opinion this presentation would require a check up at your local vet and possibly antibiotics. I would suspect a primary or secondary bacterial infection but allergies and autoimmune disorders may be present as well. I do not think Benadryl will work unfortunately but buster collar will avoid further lesions.

This looks like a mild skin infection or irritation from an insect bite or injury. You can wash it with antibacterial soap, rinse it well and then apply a thin film of antibacterial ointment on it. As long as there are no other spots this should heal fine. The overlying skin may come off and then the pinker skin may be showing until the fur grows back in which could take a month or so. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! A lot of skin bumps and lumps can look the same. She could have hit her nose on something and the bump is related to trauma and will go away, it could be a benign growth (like a histiocytoma), it could be part of a skin infection or immune reaction, hives or a cancerous growth. If the bump doesn't resolve in a few days I recommend having your Vet look at it. The sores around her mouth can also be due to infection or an immune condition and may or may not be related to the new bump on her nose. I hope this helps and I wish Luna a speedy recovery!

These bumps could be from an allergic reaction, mites, fleas, or a skin infection. Because Benadryl hasn't helped and Kylo has had these bumps for a week, it's time to see the vet. The vet can diagnose the cause of the bumps, and can prescribe the correct treatment for them. I would take him into the vet in the morning. I hope this helps!
