My dog looks like a Pitbull, but papers say retriever. What breed?

Hello there! I think pharaoh hound and jack russell terrier are as good a guess as any - there might even be some viszla in there! You can always invest in a DNA test (which will run you $50-100, depending on which brand you select), but these tests are not usually sensitive past the great-grandparents - what this means is that if there wasn't a purebred dog in your pup's lineage as a great-grandparent, grandparent, or parent, you might not get a very accurate result. Your puppy is very cute! It is important to remember that visual identification is inaccurate 75% of the time. However if I had to guess, I think there is some pitbull terrier in your pup. It is likely that your pup is a mix of several different breeds. It is also possible that boxer or Boston terrier is present in the heritage. I recommend to speak with your veterinarian if genetic testing is available in your area. That is the most accurate way to know the heritage.

It’s difficult to say for sure but it looks like he may be part rat terrier or jack Russell terrier or some other type of terrier with pointed ears. He is really cute! Unfortunately there is no way to know for sure. You can do a DNA test but it isn’t 100% accurate and I did it on my dog just for fun.

He certainly may be, but it would be good to know for sure by running a genetic test such as the Wisdom Panel. This can be purchased online and requires a saliva sample from your pet. As you mentioned, it’s a bit of a guessing game to determine the dogs breed based on pictures alone. However, Chappie, Candle, and Jimmy look most like Chihuahua mixes to me. There are DNA tests available, such as Wisdom panels, but nothing is 100% accurate. Regardless, they’re adorable!

What a cutie. My guess would be pit bull mix, with a combo of at least 3-4 breeds. If you'd like to know his background there are genetic tests you can do for fun. Embark and Wisdom Panel are both companies that offer this service. Enjoy your new addition!
