First you should know that breed identification by looks alone has been proven to be inaccurate 75% of the time.
If I had to guess, I suspect a pit bull type breed and German Shepherd. However Boxer and maybe hound could also be present. If you want to know for sure, look at one of the breed tests such as Wisdom Panel.

Please know that looks are not an accurate way to determine breed. When tested, it was shown that guessing breed by looks alone was inaccurate 75% of the time. There are genetic tests available that can tell you what Samson really is. I recommend to company Wisdom Panel.

STRICTLY as a GUESS, Samson looks like he has pit bull or other bully type breed and possible lab or hound as well. I hope this helps.

What breeds are in my dog? He's a shepherd mix, but what else?

I see no evidence whatsoever of any kind of shepherd in his background. He is almost certainly a Sporting and/or Hound mix . . . could be an English or Welsh Terrier, Brittany, or Pointer mixture. Less likely, but also possible, would be American or English Foxhound or Harrier, or even Beagle! To be absolutely sure, you can have his DNA tested.

What breeds are in my 6-month-old 42lb shep/lab mix? Is he a hound?

I think he certainly could have some hound in him. I also think his face and ears look a little like a Great Dane, although he's not that large. I definitely can see the German Sheoherd.
