Is it okay to give my dog lisinopril instead of enalapril for a dose?

Can I substitute Lisinopril for enalapril for 1 dose? Web says yes but would like an expert to advise

I would not recommend that you change out meds without direct supervision by your vet. Dosing is not the same between these two drugs and it depends a lot on what condition we are treating here. Lisinopril is not as commonly used in dogs.
If you are out of meds and cannot refill until tomorrow, it would be better to skip a dose then to change meds suddenly (although certainly skipping meds is not advised if you can avoid it).

    Enalapril is the generic form of this medication and it is the same as the enalapril used in humans. Lasinopril is a similar drug, is in the same class, and has a similar mode of action. Ofterntimes it is doctor preference which one is prescribed but occasionally there are reasons to choose one over the other. Enalapril is more commonly used in veterinary medicine.

    So yes, you could potentially switch to lasinopril but I would definitely speak with the prescribing veterinarian first to make sure there are no specific reasons to avoid it.

I would not be overly concerned however, it depends on the dose and how far apart the doses were given. If you are talking about 2 hours apart then there could be an issue. If you are talking more like 9-10 hours apart then it should be just fine.

My dog missed enalapril. Is skipping her heart medication dangerous?
It's very important that Molly gets her enalapril as scheduled, and missing three doses can be harmful to her health. I can't say if she will die or not, but I do think it's best to give her one of the missed doses now (not all three!) and then the next as regularly scheduled. Have her checked out by a vet to be safe in the morning. I hope this helps!

My dog ate Lisinopril. Is human blood pressure medicine toxic to dogs?
Hi, Lisinopril is used in the treatment of both heart failure and hypertension (high blood pressure) in dogs. In dogs required the drug the safe dose is 0.5 mg/kg which in the case of 13 lb (6.5 kg) puppy that would be 3.25mg which makes 10mg an overdose. Overdose may cause lethargy, increased heart rate, vomiting, and hypotension (low blood pressure). Seek veterinary care immediately. If it has happened less than an hour ago the vet may be able to induce vomiting. If not he will need to be monitored and supportive care depending on signs.

A single dose (not overdosed) should not cause any harm if your dog is fit and healthy. Monitor him for the day, he may feel weaker than normal and urinate more. Make sure water is available all the time.

Hello. Lisinopril is indicated for proteinuria in dogs, but I can not just tell you to give this to her. I do not know her overall health & this can make a tremendous difference when giving medications. Hello. You do not indicate what medication Lily is on so I cannot really say, but if there is no way to pick up the meds, you will just have to make do. But in general, missing a few doses are fine, unless this is a life saving heart drug.
