My dog accidentally took enalapril second dose too soon. Is he okay?

A single dose (not overdosed) should not cause any harm if your dog is fit and healthy. Monitor him for the day, he may feel weaker than normal and urinate more. Make sure water is available all the time.

Other signs include lethargy, excess salivation, increased heart rate, vomiting, diarrhea, weakness, and cough. If you see any of those signs, rush him into a vet immediately. I hope this helps!

Hello and thank you very much for your question. Your dog is so very lucky to have such concerned and caring parents. Vetmedin is administered at a dosage of 0.5 mg per kilogram of body weight. A kilogram is equal to 2.2 pounds. If I am reading your question correctly, you both gave 1.25 mg to your dog this morning. That is the total daily dose recommended for a dog your size. Even though the dosage should be divided into two doses given approximately 12 hours apart, it is absolutely fine in this situation that the entire daily dosage was given once. So, no, you have no reason to be concerned with what happened this morning. Your dog should be absolutely fine. Please do not give any doses for the rest of the day and tomorrow morning, go back to your regular 1/2 tablet every 12 hours dosing schedule. I hope I have given you the information you needed. It's very important that Molly gets her enalapril as scheduled, and missing three doses can be harmful to her health. I can't say if she will die or not, but I do think it's best to give her one of the missed doses now (not all three!) and then the next as regularly scheduled. Have her checked out by a vet to be safe in the morning. I hope this helps!

The dose for dogs is 0.5mg per kg. Enalapril comes in 2.5mg tablets so did Charlie eat 2.5mg or 0.25mg? If he only at 0.25mg he probably will have no ill effects. If he ate 2.5mg then he could have some side effects. Things to watch out for: low blood pressure, increased urination, decreased appetite, vomiting, sudden lethargy or weakness.
