Why does my dog have light blue spots on the outer part of his ears?

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It is possible that this spot is part of Honey Boy's normal pigmentation of his skin. If you believe that this spot has appeared rapidly or suddenly, and if it is changing in size or appearance, I recommend making an appointment with your veterinarian to have it examined. Otherwise, you can monitor the spot over time and look for changes. Pigmented areas on the skin can be benign, but unfortunately, they could also indicate malignant forms of cancer, such as melanoma. Your veterinarian will be able to examine the area, and can take a biopsy of the site to send for histopathology to determine what cell types are present. I hope this is helpful!

This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! These look like alopecic patches which may de due to scratching of her ears which may be due to an ear infection for example. I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. If this is confirmed they would likely proceed with topical therapy. Good luck!

If it is not associated with itchiness or discomfort, there is no need to be concerned about this. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I recommend a vet visit when you can. This appears to be a mass or growth of some sort. The vet may recommend doing a needle aspirate to collect some cells to look at under the microscope to determine what it is.

Sadly a lot of skin masses can look the same but the picture resembles a sebaceous adenima which are benign. The only way to know for sure is to either remove it and send it for biopsy or try to do a fine needle aspirate in it. I hope this helps and have a great night!
