Spot under my cat's ear, not growing. Is it normal or concerning?

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It is possible that this spot is part of Honey Boy's normal pigmentation of his skin. If you believe that this spot has appeared rapidly or suddenly, and if it is changing in size or appearance, I recommend making an appointment with your veterinarian to have it examined. Otherwise, you can monitor the spot over time and look for changes. Pigmented areas on the skin can be benign, but unfortunately, they could also indicate malignant forms of cancer, such as melanoma. Your veterinarian will be able to examine the area, and can take a biopsy of the site to send for histopathology to determine what cell types are present. I hope this is helpful!

Those white spots on Ed's ears could just be areas of normal pigment changes or areas where the hair is naturally thinner. As long as Ed is not itchy around his ears, does not have increased hair loss, and these spots do not get larger I would not be concerned and just monitor the area. If it does not bother Chibi at all, and she is not limping or licking at that foot, I would not be concerned. I hope this is helpful!

The spots could be from your cat itching excessively at her ears, or they could be a little bruises under the skin. It is difficult to know which is going on based on the pictures. I would recommend taking your cat into the vet because if it is bruises this could indicate a bleeding or clotting disorder. Hopefully it is nothing too serious going on, but I would have it checked out just to be safe.

It's possible they are small cysts. You'll want to keep a close eye on them. If you notice any change at all, in color, size, or tenderness, you'll want to visit your local Veterinarian as soon as possible.

This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis.
