My chihuahua licked ear drops. Why is he gagging and throwing up?

There are several medications to treat ear mites. I recommend to call your veterinarian and ask if this is a side effect. In general, vomiting is not related to ear mites. It sounds like your dog was nauseous, and dogs can lick things when they are nauseous. I can give you a home remedy for the vomiting to see if that helps. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. Poor Tomy. Drinking a lot of water and a decrease in appetite suggests that he may have an infection. Because he is shaking his head I would have his ears checked first to see if he has an ear infection (otitis external). If he has a deep infection (otitis interns) in the ears, this can also throw off his balance, cause vomiting (motion sickness), and cause him to walk awkwardly. It is best it have him checked by your vet soon to be evaluated and examined thoroughly. Until you can get him in be seen, offer Tomy small portions of canned food to keep him nutritionally sound. It sounds like Maximus may have a respiratory infection such as kennel cough, which often causes coughing and gagging without anything coming up. Or, he could be feeling nauseous and trying to vomit - if his stomach is empty, sometimes this gagging can be non-productive. If he is acting normal otherwise and this problem just started today, you can try withholding food for the rest of the day and offering a small amount of plain boiled chicken and rice this evening to help settle his stomach. If this doesn't help, or if he continues to have repeated episodes of coughing or gagging throughout the day, then I would recommend having him examined by a vet - he/she can determine whether Maximus has a respiratory infection or a stomach problem and get him started on appropriate medication to treat it.

It sounds as Baby is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti nausea injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better. if the vet thinks it is more serious she will need a blood test and possibly an ultrasound in order to find out what is wrong.

Poor pups! The constant ear infections definitely could be secondary to Missy licking them constantly. I would not expect the vomiting be secondary to this usually. You could try to feed them some plain boiled boneless, skinless chicken and white rice to see if this helps. Also, if you opened up a bag of dog food around the time they both started vomiting, you may have a bad bag. I would consider opening up a new bag. Since it has been going on for quite some time, I would strongly recommend to have your vet take a look at them both. It could be something serious like an esophageal foreign body or obstruction, or it could be something a little less serious like kennel cough (often a productive cough looks very similar to attempted vomiting). Regardless of whether or not it is something serious I do think Koko needs an exam with your vet. I would recommend having Koko examined by a vet as soon as possible if he also seems to be painful, lethargic or in distress.
