My dog licked a small amount of diluted antifreeze. Is he okay?

Hello. If a dangerous or toxic amount of antifreeze was consumed, stage 1 symptoms can show up as early as 30 minutes & include vomiting, ataxia, weakness or depression. Signs may subside in an hour or two before progressing to a swift decline in health 6-12 hours post ingestion. During this stage, you may see panting & a significant increase in thirst & also urination. Complete shutdown of the kidneys usually occurs around 72 - 96 hours post ingestion. So if you are seeing absolutely no signs at 12 hours, you are probably OK, but if there are ever any doubts, take your dog to your vet because bloodwork will be the best way to diagnose a suspicion rather than waiting to see if anything develops ( which may now be too late to treat ). Your dog licking a very small amount of alcohol should not cause him any serious harm, although depending on the alcohol content it may cause him to become slightly drunk. This can cause wobbliness/ataxia, lethargy, vomiting. If you notice any of these signs, he should be seen by a veterinarian. Early intervention is ABSOLUTELY needed to avoid toxicity and save his life. Side effects can show up even few days later than the ingestion of the antifreeze. Take Tioga to your veterinarian and have him checked and treated immediately.

Symptoms include nausea and vomiting, the cat wobbling, acting uncoordinated, appearing drunk, twitching muscles, head tremors. and depression. The symptoms shown depend on how much is ingested. Only a vet can determine by examination of a cat whether treatment or not will work for a cat who has ingested antifreeze. However, if he only sniffed the rain water or licked a small amount, then it would be unlikely that he would be affected. This is especially true if he is still acting normally. In the future, try to avoid rain water. However, dogs seem to seek it out. Monitor him for any vomiting or attitude changes. I hope this information helps!

There is no difference between the time it affects small or large dogs, the toxicity levels are according to the amount ingested. the symptoms abby is showing are very general, anti freeze would not be the first thing to jump to mind unless you have seen her drink it.
