My dog's leg is red and painful when touched. Should I see a vet?

This looks pretty infected already, i would recommend taking Rex to the vet, the area will need to be clipped, cleaned and he will need either a local antibiotic cream or systemic oral antibiotics in order to resolve this infection.

What you are describing makes me think that Reggie’s problem is related to the nerves in his foot/leg. This would explain the twitching and sometimes if there is pain from the nerves dogs will bite/chew on the area. I would recommend taking Reggie to a vet to be examined. He may have an orthopedic or neurological issue causing pain/discomfort and your vet may be able to prescribe some medication to help him be more comfortable. I hope this helps. I would take Casper into a vet today. He sounds painful, which is why he won't walk on the leg and cries when you touch it. He could have injured it, broken a bone, or torn a ligament. He needs to see a vet now to see what is causing the pain so he can be treated. The vet can prescribe pain medications as needed. Please do not give him any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. Best of luck.

Poor Merl! It sounds like his leg is really hurting him, if he won't move it at all and doesn't want to get up and walk around. Since it sounds like he's in pain, I would recommend having him seen by a vet today if possible - he/she can do a complete orthopedic exam to check for any serious injuries, and may also take x-rays if needed. The vet can also get Merl started on some pain medication to make him feel better, since unfortunately there is nothing over-the-counter that would be safe to give him.

It doesn't look like a sprain injury. The redness /bruising to the skin is likely to be a result of blunt trauma (from a fall or unfortunate jump ?) which is causing some degree of abdominal and muscular pain. Please, apply a cold compress on the area for about 20-30 minutes and then re-assess the situation. If your dog is still limping badly and looks in pain, you should take him to your local vet for full clinical examination and to get treatment for him.

Poor Reggie! I'm wondering if he has a problem with his back or hips if he is sitting and standing hunched over. He could also have pain in his stomach. He should see a vet for this first thing in the morning. Until then, rest him. No running, jumping, or playing. Take him out to toilet on a lead only, and bring him right back in when he's done. Yes, I do think it would be a good idea to have Grundy seen by a vet for this. He could have strained or torn a ligament causing this limping, and because it has been going on for a couple of days, having him seen by a vet today or tomorrow is best. The vet can diagnose what is causing his pain, and can give him pain medication as well as treat the underlying cause.
