My dog has leg marks. Is it Alabama Rot? Should I worry or see a vet?

Poor Elsa! Since you have heard of some reports of this illness in that area, I would recommend to have her seen by your vet. Alabama Rot can be a very serious illness and some do have successful treatments if treatment is started early. On the other hand, there is a high probability that it isn't Alabama Rot and she may just need some antibiotics or other meds to help her feel better. It is better to have her seen and have this ruled out rather than wait to see if it gets worse. I hope this helps!

No this does not look at all like Alabama rot at this point. Alabama rot starts affecting the kidneys within a very short time, watch for signs such as excessive drinking and urination, lack of appetite and lethargy. if you see any of those symptoms, take him to the vet to have a blood test done.

It's difficult to tell you exactly what this mark is from the photo as I can't tell contextually what part of the leg I'm looking at. For example a mark like this would be really common in the elbow region on the front limb as it is a pressure point where they lie down. Sometimes it forms a lump called an elbow hygroma. So if it is in the elbow region I would not worry. However if this is occurring somewhere that is not a pressure point when lying down I would be concerned about a skin infection and have it checked out and treated by your vet.

Hello. This does not sound like Alabama Rot ( Cutaneous and Renal Glomerular Vasculopathy ) as most dogs will have signs of renal disease called azotemia. While acute vomiting is a sign of this, it would not just stop after 24 hours. Thrombocytopenia is often seen on bloodwork & the skin lesions can be quite impressive. If Poppy is eating, drinking & urinating normally, & the skin irritation is resolving, then the chances of this being CRGV is quite unlikely. Any concerns, please return to your vet for follow up blood work which will identify if there are any ongoing renal changes that are indicative of this disease. Hello. All I can see is a small area of dermatitis on the leg. It can have many causes, but you can treat this with an over the counter skin antiseptic called Hibiclens. Gently scrub the skin twice a day & dab dry ( do not rinse ). Do this for about 2-3 weeks & the lesion should clear up. But since I cannot make any kind of actual diagnosis, if the skin becomes more irritated or the area does not seem to be healing, please consider seeing your veterinarian. That looks like a skin lesion to me, which could be from a tick bite. It could also be a ringworm lesion. Without seeing Dozer in person, I can't say for certain what is causing this mark. I recommend giving his vet a call today to make an appointment for him. The vet can diagnose what is causing the mark, and can prescribe a treatment for it. Best of luck.

This should be seen and examined by a veterinarian. This could be an infected hotspot, an ulcerated tumor or another skin condition that needs veterinary attention. Since it looks infected I would definitely make an appointment for the next few days. Depending on the diagnosis your vet will prescribe medications or suggest removal of the mass. This is a tricky spot for mass removal, as there is very little skin available to close the wound, so it will likely take a few weeks to months to heal after surgery.
