My puppy has a broken leg and is bleeding. What to do until vet?

Aside from that, she should be evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible to check if there are any fractures and to see what would be the best therapeutic step for her. This is a medical emergency, and this puppy needs to see a vet now. This will be extremely painful for him, and he needs pain medications right away. Do not give him any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. He also needs x-rays to determine how bad the fracture is, and if surgery is an option to repair it. If the fracture is really bad, amputation may be needed, but only a vet can decide that. Please take him into a vet immediately.

The best thing to do right now is keep it covered with a clean towel. It can be secured with masking tape. Don't try to clean it since that could cause bleeding to start if it dislodges a clot. Gypsy needs to see the vet in the morning so it can be evaluated and she can get started on antibiotics and appropriate pain medications. Depending on what the vet finds, it may be able to heal on its own (called second intention healing) or it may need surgery to remove dead tissue or cover bones if they are exposed.

I am so very soory your pet has such a severe injury and no available vet anywhere for the moment. There isn't a whole lot you can do to help with the pain besides soaking this area in a Betadine diluted 50:50 with warm water bath to help relieve some of the inflammation and also cut down on any bacteria that may develop at the site of the injury. You should also clean this daily with sterile saline. Applying a cold compress (for 5 mins max twice daily) on the area first can also help with pain anf inflammation. We can't recommend any over the counter pain medicine b/c they can be quite toxic in pets and therefore we can't risk it. I would try to do this and wrap the leg as best you can with materials (Tefla pad, continuous gauze, cast padding) from your local pharmacy. You can certainly also look up "how to bandage your pets leg" on youtube to learn how to do this safely and without cutting off any circulation in the process. Then work diligently to try and find any vet in the area that can help your poor puppy moving forward, because it sounds like he will certainly need medical attention moving forward if we are going to help him save this leg. Ouch, your poor pup! You need to take him into the vet as soon as possible. It needs to be cleaned sterilely, he may need x-rays to see if there are any possible broken bones, he needs antibiotics to prevent an infection, some of the cuts may need sutures, and he will need pain medication. Poor Bayonette! Rest her. No running, jumping, or playing. Confine her to a crate or a small room to limit her movement. Take her out to potty on a leash, and bring her right back in when she's done. Do not give her any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. Having her see the vet in the morning is the right thing to do. I hope this helps.

Oh dear! If your puppy is spitting up blood, not moving her back legs, panting, and her eyes look glazed, she is very badly injured - she needs to see an emergency vet immediately. These are all signs of serious internal injuries. I would recommend putting her in the car immediately and taking her to your nearest ER for an exam and treatment to see what can be done for her.
