What should I do about a large bloody sore on my dog's neck?

If Nova is two years or younger, this could be a histiocytoma - a benign tumor that is usually on the front half of the body. They usually go away on their own without treatment. This could also be a wart, or less likely a more malignant tumor. Just to be safe, take Nova to the vet to get a for-sure diagnosis. Hope this helps and best of luck to you and Nova!

It looks like there is an infection under the skin, it could be due to a bruise or some other type of injury. i would indeed recommend taking Oscar to the vet in order to get it treated, he will probably need a course of antibiotics.

Hi ! It is difficult to tell 100% from the pictures as you only can only gather some information. It does look like the black scab is necrotic (dead ) tissue, possibly due to lying on a hard surface for prolonged periods of time. The necrotic tissue has partially come off exposing some live and bleeding tissue. This is my impression ! I would recommend to have Riabow checked over so that she can receive some treatment, this wound will cause lots of discomfort !

I would recommend that you have Lumpy checked out by a vet. It looks like it may be infected. The hair will need to be clipped away from the mass and the wound. Even if it is benign, masses don't heal very well since they are not normal tissue, so it may need to be removed so that it stops bleeding and will not continue to be a source for infection.

If she does not have a history of a traumatic wound, she could have an infected tooth. This can create an abscess under the skin that can rupture open. Poor Lucky! I'm glad to hear that his vet will be checking him out tomorrow. From the picture, the skin lesion looks most like a hot spot (aka acute moist dermatitis). If you have clippers on hand, you can try to carefully trip the hair over and around this skin lesion to allow for better air flow. You can also gently clean his skin with an antiseptic solution, such as diluted chlorhexidine or diluted betadine, but be sure to rinse and dry thoroughly. If Lucky is scratching at his neck, it would be best to put an e-collar (cone) on until his appointment. The vet may need to prescribe antibiotics, steroids, or topical sprays to help this lesion to heal. I hope this helps and that all goes well!

There is no way of knowing for sure without an examination though this represents a reason to seek veterinary care. This is usually determined with an examination and a fine needle aspirate (FNA) or a biopsy. Treatment depends on the findings up to that point.
