My dog's neck growth is bleeding. Should I treat it or see a vet?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 15 years and 5 months old | 23 lbs

My dog has a benign growth on her neck that must have got cut off by her collar and has been bleeding for a couple days. Can this be treated at home or should I take her to a vet?

I would recommend that you have Lumpy checked out by a vet. It looks like it may be infected. The hair will need to be clipped away from the mass and the wound. Even if it is benign, masses don't heal very well since they are not normal tissue, so it may need to be removed so that it stops bleeding and will not continue to be a source for infection.
