My dog took too much Keppra. Should I induce vomiting or see a vet?

Hello. We do use Keppra in dogs, & this would have been a bit on the lower dosing side, so I would not be concerned. A potential dangerous dose would need to be at least 10 times this much. Hello, Keppra has a wide safety margin and very high dosages have been reported to cause increase salivation. The zonisamide is 2 times the high end of normal, but not near the dose where it could be dangerous. You may note that Molly is sedate, lethargic, she may have some vomiting or wobbly walk. You should contact your veterinarian in the morning to see if they want you to continue normal dosing times or if you should change the timing. Monitor for any overly sedate behavior or obtundation and contact your emergency veterinarian if you note any. Best of luck and hope this helps.

Keppra does have a wide margin of safety, but keep a close eye on Hoyt. If you see any concerning signs like vomiting, lethargy, or diarrhea, have him seen by a vet. Give his next dose at the normal time.

The dose range of metronidazole can go up to 11mg per day, which would be 550mg at her weight. Depending on the infection, the dose rate can be even higher than 11mg. All of this is to say you did not overdose her, and you do not need to induce vomiting. She will be fine. I hope this helps!

Duke is 80lbs, so about 36.4kg. He ingested 0.55mg/kg of Lexapro. With doses as low as 0.3mg/kg, you can see incoordination and lethargy, although there is typically no toxic damage to organs. To be safe, if Duke ate the Lexapro within the past 2 hours, I would take him to your vet now to induce vomiting. If it's been longer than 2 hours, you will have to monitor him for signs of toxicity (tremors, incoordination, seizures, lethargy), and if you see any of those signs, take him to a vet right away.

Hello, & thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Keppra is an excellent anti-seizure medication used extensively in human & veterinary medicine. The advantage to keppra over phenobarb, is the keppra is metabolized unchanged by the body, thus the liver does not ever see it.. Therefore, it is an excellent drug when the liver has become compromised by the phenobarb. Not every dog needs to be switched, but when they are, the seizures are very well controlled.
