My Yorkie has KCS. Why dry nose, drooling, and tired? Is it serious?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Female | spayed | 6 lbs

My 10 month old Yorkie was recently diagnosed with Keratoconjunctivitis sicca in her right eye only. Since that diagnosis, the right side of her nose is dry and she excessively drools periodically on that side. Although happy & alert, she sleeps more than I would expect for a puppy her age and also easily pants under mild exertion. Could there be something else going on besides KCS or maybe an infection of some sort is to blame for all this? Does KCS cause drool? She is on Optimmune.

I would be worrrid she has KCS and a dry nose from a blocked lacrimal gland so the tears are unable to to love and be made. KCS is commonly found in older dogs
I would look into a consult with an ophthalmologist to see if they can flush that gland to help improve her or see if something else is going on. It is not common for them to drool from this either
