My dog's eyes are cloudy, sensitive to light, and have discharge. What's wrong?

Hi, My mom's teacup yorkie developed a grayish cloudy eyes and lost it's gloss. the dog is still seeing but bothered by the light. She is in Egypt and it's hard to find a trust worthy vet i really need advice so we can at least guide the vet, I attached pictures of the dog. Could this be glaucoma? and if so or if it's something else is it treatable. Few days ago the dog was loosing balance and drunk walking. Now it's better and the eye discharge is a little less. Please help

The sensitivity to light is a sign of pain. I wiukd first be worried about an ulcer on the cornea. This can cause pain and a discharge and easy to test for. Glaucoma can have a big eye and a red eye, not usually squinting. An eye infection can also cause these issues along with a dry eye. Your vet can check the tear production and look for an ulcer as each one has medicine that can correct this

Without seeing your dog in person or a better view of the eye it is hard to say for certain but this could be severe conjunctivitis/episcleritis (inflammation due often to infection, sometimes to dry eye/decreased tear production) or a subconjunctival hemorrhage (bleeding under the conjunctiva) which can be due to to trauma or a bleeding disorder or high blood pressure. A veterinary exam is needed to pinpoint the problem and prescribe appropriate treatment.

The protruding appearance may indicate an increase in the pressure inside the eye. Phoebe should be seen by your veterinarian, at the nearest veterinary ER or by a veterinary ophthalmologist as soon as possible. If glaucoma is diagnosed, she may lose sight, or even the eye, if treatment is not started right away.

Based on your description I would be more worried about hemorrhage in the eye than glaucoma but either way I'd recommend having your dog seen by a veterinarian. Glaucoma usually causes redness on the white part of the eye while the rest of the eye looks cloudy or blue. Bleeding in the eye can be a sign of high blood pressure, trauma or a bleeding disorder and could lead to glaucoma if not treated promptly.

My dog's eyes squint and discharge after being lost. What's wrong?

This could have been caused by a conjunctivitis possibly allergic or infective. Corneal injuries could be present as well. I would recommend a check up to confirm these clinical suspicion and treat appropriately. Anti-inflammatory or antibiotic eye drops may be needed.

My dog's red, droopy eyes and discharge recur. What should I do?

Moo is adorable, but his eyes certainly seem uncomfortable given his squinting! Squinting is a sign of eye pain in dogs. Coupled with the yellow/green discharge, it is concerning that he may have an eye infection, corneal ulcer or uveitis (inflammation within the eyes). Allergies may be contributing, but the yellow/green discharge makes me suspicious that there is another issue present. If his eyes are itchy at all, make sure that Moo wears an e-collar (cone) until you can take him to the vet today or tomorrow to prevent further eye injury. I hope that all goes well!

Changes like you are describing in the eyes can have a variety of causes, including glaucoma (increased eye pressure), an infection, a scratch on the eye, or another underlying issue. As eye issues can progress quickly and cause irreversible damage if not properly addressed, I would recommend Linus be evaluated by his regular veterinarian, have any necessary testing done (eye stain, tear production, pressure check) and start any treatment if needed. My old boxer's eye had discharge, now it's cloudy. Is it serious?

Oh dear! This sounds like something that definitely needs to be seen by a vet as soon as possible. Discharge from the eyes can be caused by an eye infection, an injury to the eye such as a corneal scratch or ulcer, allergies, or even chronic problem such as dry eye. The fact that one eye now looks cloudy is very concerning - this could be due to a severe corneal ulcer, an infection or inflammatory reaction inside the eye, glaucoma, or a cataract. Eye problems like this need prompt attention because there is a risk of permanent damage or even vision loss the longer it goes without treatment. Because of this, I would recommend taking Diesel to an emergency vet today - he/she can examine his eye and use a special stain if needed to check for an ulcer or other injury, and will prescribe appropriate medication to treat the problem depending on what is found.

My dog's eye is cloudy, shut, and has discharge. What's wrong?

It could be that Hershey has a severe eye infection or could have suffered trauma to the eye. The eye is such a delicate and important structure that any problem with it should be considered an emergency and should never be treated at home. That's because leaving it untreated or attempting home treatment could go very wrong and lead to vision loss. I would take Hershey into the vet immediately. The vet can determine what is causing the eye problems, will let you know if it can be cured, and can prescribe treatment for it.

My senior dog has green eye discharge, redness, and cloudy film.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This could be due to an eye injury or conditions such as a corneal laceration and/or corneal ulcer. At least in these pictures, his cornea appears affected. I highly recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment.
