How to stop my dog from jumping and biting when off-leash in the yard?

I recommend having Lilly in the crate when people come over. When they are inside and settled then let her out of the crate to greet them. They should not focus on her just continue socially with you. If she's calm they can pat her but I wouldn't do anything to get her excited. Over time she'll learn that when she's under control she can be with visitors. If she gets too excited then I would put her outside or back into the crate, This is not punishment per se but rather a time out until she can control her behavior. Training her will take time and patience but it will be worth the effort when you have a well behaved companion. A basic obedience class would be a great way for you to start instilling some manners, help teach Tita what you like and don't like, and get the two of you bonding so you have a better time together. Looking up positive reinforcement techniques to stop behaviors such as jumping up, barking, and chasing other pets can also help.

This is a very common issue with puppies - they often get overly excited during play, and have trouble controlling themselves :) It's possible that your sister may tend to be louder, more active, or move more suddenly when she plays with the puppy, which often results in the puppy getting more "wound up." If your sister doesn't live with you, this may also be happening because the puppy is excited to see her when she comes over. Make sure that you have lots of different toys available for Sherri - long floppy rope or fleece toys for tugging, plush toys for biting and carrying, and smaller toys or balls for chasing and fetching. Your sister should always use a toy when she is playing with Sherri, so that Sherri has something to bite on. If she starts to get too excited, you can ask her to sit for a treat, or engage her in some other activity that is calmer and less exciting until she settles down. If needed, you can even give her something to chew on, such as a bully stick or a Kong stuffed with peanut butter, and put her in her crate for a while to let her calm down. Her ability to stay calm during play should improve as she gets older, just as it does for human children :) In the meantime, you can help her by redirecting her to a calmer activity when needed.

You will need to be patient and consistent to teach him what you want him to do. When people come to the house, he needs to be on a leash or in another room behind a baby gate until he calms down. Praise and reward with treats when he keeps all four feet on the floor, or teach him to sit for greetings. Make sure that he has a variety of different toys to provide an appropriate outlet for this behavior - long floppy rope or fleece toys for tugging, plush toys for biting and carrying, and smaller toys or balls for chasing and fetching. Providing lots of things to chew on can also help, especially when you are busy or have company over - try things like bully sticks, cow or pig ears, rawhide chews, and puzzle toys like a Kong stuffed with peanut butter. If these things don't help, I would recommend getting in touch with a good reward-based trainer who can work with you in person to teach more appropriate greeting behavior. This behavior tends to subside or drastically lessen over time as a puppy ages. For the biting, I find that whenever a puppy bites my hand, I place my thumb under the tongue and hold it there until the puppy is annoyed and then release. I repeat this over and over until the puppy loses interest in biting. You can also use a spray bottle filled with water and every time Lucky jumps up or begins biting, you can lightly spritz him in the face and say "off!" to help deter the unwanted behavior. The best advice I can give is exercise, training, and more exercise. When you walk in the door, ask Sofia to come to a certain spot, sit (or some other trick), and then reward her with a treat. If you do this every time, she will quickly learn to go to that spot every time you walk in (rather than jump and nip at you). And then take her out to run at least once daily- three times is even better. Best of luck to you and Sofia.
