Why does my dog have redness on her jaw after chewing a bone?

It could be from coming in contact with something he’s allergic to, something causing trauma to that area or chewing on something very dirty and bacteria laden. Certainly any new treats or bones are suspect. You should also inspect his toys for any that look very dirty or very rough and either throw them away or wash them. You should wash all of his chew toys in general as well as his food and water bowls at least once a week. Young healthy dogs can often heal lesions on their own as long as they are not continually coming in contact with an allergen or trauma. This could be a skin infection or it could be a reaction to Roxie's bowls if they are plastic. Try switching her bowls to stainless steel to see if that helps. If this doesn't help, then she should see a vet for it, especial since her chin has looked like this for a while. It may be an allergy or an infection in the hair follicle. Make sure you are using stainless steel bowls and wash them daily. Keep the area clean with soap and water or use clearsil wipes in the area. You can apply cortisone cream to help and if this does. It show improvement then I would have a vet check the area

Breeds like French bulldogs are prone to irritation and skin infections in the jowl area. The overhanging lips creates a perfect environment for bacteria. Sometimes this can become itchy. Pets can also develop allergies to foods or certain toys or even food bowls. I recommend to call your veterinarian. They may need to check Marlowe for an infection. They often carry medicated wipes for owners to use at home to prevent irritation and infection. Also make sure to clean his toys, food and water bowls once a week with hot soapy water and rinse well. The best way to prevent this is by keeping the water and food bowls very clean. If he has been itchy, you may get an e-collar from your local pet store to prevent further scratching trauma to the area. Keep this as clean as possible. You can use soapy water. Please, take Rona to your local vets for an appointment. She will likely need a course of antibiotics in form of tablets or ointment/cream.
