Why does my dog have a persistent rash on his chin or mouth?

Those spots on Churro could be several things including allergies, a reaction to the plastic, mites or just a one time bacterial infection. You can try adding in an omega 3 fatty acid supplement for dogs, this can help improve the skin health. You may also try changing her diet to something like Royal Canin or Nutro as they are aimed at skin health. You can wash the lesions with soap once a day and rinse well (don't get soap/water in the nose or mouth). Protect the areas from licking or scratching. Change food/water bowels to glass or metal and wash once weekly. Wash all the chew toys once a week as well. If they don't start looking better within about a week or if they get worse, have her examined by her veterinarian who may prescribe medications. This could be mild skin irritation but it also could indicate bruising. Sometimes watching it closely for a few days to make sure the area is not getting bigger and that it's getting less inflamed is all that is needed. However if it becomes increasingly red, develops bumps, or begins to bleed it needs to be seen by a veterinarian.

The best way to prevent this is by keeping the water and food bowls very clean. If he has been itchy, you may get an e-collar from your local pet store to prevent further scratching trauma to the area. Keep this as clean as possible. You can use soapy water. I am sorry to hear about your dog! If this is coming and going I would wonder if there is something he is occasionally getting into that he has an allergy to, such as a plant in your yard. Or perhaps he is getting a special treat/table scrap on the days he breaks out that he has an allergy to. I would recommend bringing him in during a flare up for his vet to examine him as we do worry when we have lesions develop along the edge of the nose about autoimmune disease, so he should be examined to ensure this isn't something that needs to be further investigated.

It does look a little irritated there. That could be caused by irritation from a muzzle or face halter, or could be regular allergies starting up. I would recommend keeping the area clean and dry, for now. If it's not getting better after 3-5 days, I'd recommend a vet visit to see if she needs most medicated wipes. It's common for young dogs to get superficial bacterial infections around their lips, which usually doesn't require oral antibiotics, but may require a topical treatment. I hope that helps! This looks like a mild infection which is likely an extension of chin acne. This is usually treated with benzoyl peroxide wipes (i.e. Stridex pads) and oral antibiotics. Antihistamines are also often used to help resolve this and some pets requrire steroid thereapy to get this to subside. This is usually caused by a skin allergy which can be from something in then environment or a food allergy.
