Found an irritated spot on my dog during bath. Is it a hotspot?

Looks like a hot spot, skin infection. These are itchy and painful. They have to be shaved, cleaned by your veterinarian and then be placed on antibiotics. He may need a steroid injection as well. If your veterinarian isn't open tomorrow, id go to ER cause these are uncomfortable.

That looks very painful. I would be concerned about a possible insect bite causing that. It looks a little bit swollen for just a normal hotspot. I recommend Shiba be rechecked as soon as possible to ensure is nothing more serious. This is because some bites can cause tissue sloughing and the necrosis as well as issues like bleeding.

This is called moist dermatitis or a hot spot. They start with an itch from an insect bite or an ear infection then become severe when the dog scratches it excessively. The skin then weeps, becomes painful in addition to itching and will often have a lot of sticky discharge on it and in the surrounding fur. I recommend washing this with a warm wet cloth to remove the discharge. Then you can spray a hot spot medication on it. You can purchase one at PetCo. The most important thing is to put him in a cone to prevent scratching. If you are unable to do this then bring him in for an exam so they can treat it. They can give him pain medication and something to reduce the itching. They will also check his ear for infection. These are painful and take time to fully heal. This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria and commonly called hot spot). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection can eventually be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking/scratching. It could be a hotspot or even a burn. Place an e-collar (cone) on Buster to prevent licking or chewing. Keep the area clean and dry. You can use diluted Betadine or chlorhexidine (Hibiclens) to gently clean the area. If necessary, see your veterinarian for an exam and treatment if conservative home care doesn't help.

Hi ! Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. This does not look like a hotspot, it looks very dry, superficial and in the process of healing. Does Toby have a synthetic blanket where he lies on ? It could be contact dermatitis or an injury that was caused by play . The positive things are that it does not look infected and that it is not bothering Toby. I would say, if it is hot to touch, have it checked over if not you could give it another 2-3 days to see if it is continuing to improve on its own. I would not apply any home remedies, your vet will probably prescribe some ointment if you need to go and see it. Hope this helps !

From the picture you provided it does look as though there is quite a bit of redness / irritation. I would recommend using Sentry wound ointment, which you can find at PetCo or online. You can apply this twice daily to the area.
