Dog biting a spot after being outside. Could it be a hot spot?

It looks like the skin in this area has become infected. It could have started as a simple wound, like you said, and then progressively became infected. To help the area heal, keep the wound clean and dry. Wash it 2x a day with a gentle antibacterial soap. You can apply some triple antibiotic ointment to it as well. You will need to keep Boomer from licking the area as best as you can. The best way to do this is by placing an E-collar on him. If this does not help the area heal in 3-5 days or if the area around the wound is swollen at all, I would recommend taking Boomer to the vet to have it evaluated. Hi. This appears to be a hot spot on him. This is basically an area of a moist dermatitis , or skin infection. They are usually secondary to allergies of some type. They are treated at the veterinarian by clipping the area, cleaning it with medicated cleaner, and then antibiotics and antiinflammtories. I'd call your veterinarian in the morning for an appointment

Poor pup. This looks like a hot spot. This is a superficial bacterial infection that is initially caused by some kind of trauma/injury to the skin that then gets infected. You will need to have this area shaved by your vet and then get Biscuit on antiboitics to get this to heal. I would recommend scheduling an appt with your vet soon to have this taken care of. Until you can get Biscuit seen, you can certainly clean this area with Betadine diluted 50:50 with water to help reduce the bacterial load there and keep the infection down until he can get seen by your vet. This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria and commonly called hot spot). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection can eventually be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking/scratching. Given the condition, he is going to need to be seen by your veterinarian. Antibiotics as well as an anti-inflammatory or anti- itch medi ation are likely indicated. The area should be clipped and cleaned also. A small tee shirt or e-collar (cone) may help prevent scratching or licking. Given current events, you may need to drive up to the clinic, drop Winston off then wait for your veterinarian to call you to discuss findings and treatment options. Your vet may dispense a sedative to give orally about 60 minutes before the exam.

That looks very painful. I would be concerned about a possible insect bite causing that. It looks a little bit swollen for just a normal hotspot. I recommend Shiba be rechecked as soon as possible to ensure is nothing more serious. This is because some bites can cause tissue sloughing and the necrosis as well as issues like bleeding.
