My dog has irritated, red bumps on his face. Should I see a vet?

This looks like areas of infection. Dogs often get this from rooting in the dirt. Since these are close to the eyes and nose I'd be careful about cleaning them or putting any medication on them. Personally I'd take him in for an exam to make sure this is a skin infection and get oral antibiotics to treat this. You can use a warm damp cloth to clean them. If he's rubbing them you can give him Benadryl. There is a section on this website with information and dosages of common over the counter medications. If the medications you used don't help within 24 hours, I recommend seeing a vet for oral antibiotics. Also, if that's his neck make sure to clean his collar too. Good luck and kisses to Murphy!

From the picture, I'm concerned that he may have a mass -- or it could be the way his skin hangs that looks like a mass. Either way, the area looks very irritated and would be suspicious of a superficial skin infection that is causing discomfort. I Would recommend getting him to a vet today for evaluation and starting on antibiotics if needed, or sampling the mass if there is indeed a mass within that area.

That looks like it could be an infection, skin mites or perhaps ringworm (which humans can get). I recommend to have him examined by the veterinarian if the lesion does not start getting better on it's own within the next few days. May sure he cannot rub the area and don't put anything on the area since it's so close to his eye. You can also have him examined sooner and not wait. I can see the bumps on his chin - these may be caused by a skin infection, which can be very uncomfortable and itchy. I recommend having Charlie seen by a vet as soon as possible as Charlie may need antibiotics. In the meantime, you should try to keep the area clean and consider getting Charlie an E-collar or "cone" to keep him from scratching the area.

Poor guy! Your can try this: It won’t hurt him if he licks it off. However, if it’s not improving in 5 days or so, I would recommend that you schedule a recheck with your vet. I’m worried he may need antibiotics, as he may have a deep skin infection. If it continues to be a problem , a skin biopsy may be recommended. Thanks for asking PetCoach!
