My dog has an irritated skin sore. Could it be a mass or infection?

I recommend to take Greta to see her veterinarian. While most skin masses are benign, masses that a red/pink, hairless and raised are a concern for a malignant skin tumor called a Mast Cell tumor. It also appears as though this mass is ulcerated regardless and it needs to be removed. Once masses grow to the point of ulceration, they will heal and break open over and over again which can make them prone to infections not to mention oozing/bleeding. Just like with a human, the doctor will likely take a sample of the mass or remove the mass entirely and microscopically exam it. Thats the only way to know what it is accurately. In the mean time, protect the mass from trauma and wash it daily with an antibacterial hand soap (rinse it well). You can apply a small amount of coconut oil and rub it well into the skin. Hi. Good photo. I'm concerned about this area. It looks raised and mass like rather then an infection. There are benign and cancerous masses of the skin. It may be a deep infection as well. It is hard to say. I would recommend an exam and a cytology of this area. This will help us find out the type of cells this is made up of. Good luck

This lump looks like it could be a skin tumour. It looks ulcerated and possibly infected. It would be wise to have it tested at the vet to determine exactly what type of tumour it is, benign or cancerous.

I am sorry to hear about your concern for your dog. If the mass is continuing to get infected, I would recommend having it surgically removed. I would discuss with your vet if this is a growth and if surgery is an option.

It's really hard to tell from a picture, but that looks like a mass to me rather than a sore. I would recommend taking Django in for an appointment to have it sampled to make sure it's not cancerous. They will be able to use a needle to sample a few cells while he's awake - quick, non-painful, and generally not too expensive. Wishing you good news!

Ouch, that looks like an area of infection, or possible a bite (although infection is much more likely form the pictures). It looks very irritated, and is also very close to his eyes, so I would recommend a vet appointment rather than attempting to treat at home. I home Marley feels better soon!

This is very concerning and appears to be a moist dermatitis, likely caused by a bacterial infection. Your dog needs to be seen by a veterinarian asap for an exam, clean up of the lesion which includes shaving the hair off all the way into healthy areas of the skin to see the extent, a possible skin swab and, depending on the diagnosis, prescription antibiotics in tablet or ointment form.
