What should I do when my dog's infection scab is falling off?

From the pictures, it actually looks like it's healing nicely and I wouldn't do anything to it. Putting something on it could disrupt the healing process, and I see no sign of infection to warrant treatment. I'd just let it be, don't try to peel the scab off yourself. Hello. If things are pretty static it is best just to leave the scab alone. Chances are at some point it will fall off. Most likely another scab will form & the process will repeat itself. Clean it with soap and water to get the scab off. From there you can apply neosporin to prevent the scab from reforming and to keep the infection under control if needed. If this does not help then you will need to see your vet for further treatment

It will eventually fall off and the hair grow back if this was just a simple infection. Anytime there is an injury to the skin, a scab should form and should stay in place until the skin underneath is completely healed. If the area of Tula's scab was deep, it can take a while for the skin underneath to completely heal enough for the scab to fall off. If the area around the scab is red or oozing or the scabbed area is enlarging, then I would recommend having Tula examined by your veterinarian. It is never wrong to have something checked out to be on the safe side. That said, if the scab is superficial and there is now swelling around it then I think it would be ok to monitor for 24 hours or so for any changes. I'd leave it be for now, and have your family monitor it for signs of infection (redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, pus). If there are any signs of infection, have them take Kiko into the vet. Best of luck.
