My dog has a scab on its neck for 2 weeks, should I see a vet?

Pet's info: Dog | Pit Bull Terrier | Female | spayed | 1 year and 11 months old | 50 lbs

2 year old pit terrier has scab on neck not sure what it is. Has had 2 weeks. No changes and doesn't seem to hurt

Anytime there is an injury to the skin, a scab should form and should stay in place until the skin underneath is completely healed. If the area of Tula's scab was deep, it can take a while for the skin underneath to completely heal enough for the scab to fall off. If the area around the scab is red or oozing or the scabbed area is enlarging, then I would recommend having Tula examined by your veterinarian. Otherwise, it may just take a little longer to heal on its own.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It looks like abrasions to the skin that have healed with scabs. If it’s on his neck it could be from his collar or something that rubs on that area. If it is just those 2 spots and there is no discharge from the area and Titan isn’t bothering them, I would leave the areas alone and let them continue to heal. I would keep his collar off for a few days to decrease more irritation. If the areas have discharge, or are getting bigger, I would take him to the vet. Good luck and kisses to Titan!

My dog has a face scab. Should I worry or will it heal on its own?

Poor Mushu! Given that a scab has formed over this sore, it is healing and I would keep monitor it for now. Once the skin underneath is fully healed, the scab will fall off. I'd leave the scab alone and not rub at it. If you remove the scab, you will be disturbing the healing process and it will take longer to heal. Should the scab still be there in a few weeks, then I would be concerned and have Mushu seen by a vet.

I'd leave it be for now, and have your family monitor it for signs of infection (redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, pus). If there are any signs of infection, have them take Kiko into the vet. Best of luck.

My dog has a scab near her throat from cat. Is it infected? Vet visit?

It is never wrong to have something checked out to be on the safe side. That said, if the scab is superficial and there is now swelling around it then I think it would be ok to monitor for 24 hours or so for any changes. Dog scratched incision scab. When should I worry and see a vet?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It still looks mostly healed so I think it would be fine to monitor for now. If another scab forms then I would make sure to not her scratch it off. You can try to keep her from it by using dog "shorts" you may find online to try to cover that area. Hopefully, this continues to heal without problems. If it becomes a recurrent issue or it develops a discharge with a foul odor concerning for an infection, have her evaluated by a veterinarian then. My dog has scabs with hair on its neck and body. What are they?

This looks like a scab. He could have gotten this after a little bug bite, a local skin infection, a minor injury from being in the yard, or something else. Since it is so small, I would not be too concerned right now. If it isn't healing, you see discharge, you find more spots, or this spot gets larger, I would have your vet take a look at it to see if he needs any oral meds or other treatment to help it heal.
