My dog has a scab near her throat from cat. Is it infected? Vet visit?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 2 years and 1 month old | 11.8 lbs

Today as I was petting my dog I felt a scab under her fur which I think my cat might have done by accident because they play together.dogs eating fine and drink normal no fever I don't know if its infected, its near her throat. My question is should I make an emergency vet visit or wait for my appointment next week because she's due for shots.

It is never wrong to have something checked out to be on the safe side. That said, if the scab is superficial and there is now swelling around it then I think it would be ok to monitor for 24 hours or so for any changes. If it gets larger, swollen, or tender to the touch then she should be seen as soon as possible. Best of luck and I hope she improves soon. Thank you for using Pet Coach.
