My dog is in heat and constipated. Is it normal she hasn't pooped?

No, this degree of constipation is never normal. I strongly recommend a full vet check urgently - she may have an obstruction of prolapse which could become very difficult to treat due to stretching of muscles and nerves if not addressed in time

Offer her more water. Yiu can mix it with equal parts of unflavored PediaLyte. Plain, canned pumpkin (NOT pie filling) may also help get things moving again. Mix in a half teaspoon with her meals. If symptoms persist or worsen, have her seen by your veterinarian.

Hello. Generally, if there is some obstruction, a pet will be very painful in their abdomen often accompanied by vomiting or retching, loss of appetite, lethargy & possibly bloating. A constipated dog will spend much time hunched up as if trying to have a bowel movement or there can actually be pooching of the anal region. If Dixie seems to have a fairly normal appetite, there is no vomiting, & her vulva is swollen, then she is probably just coming into heat. Your veterinarian can determine very quickly if anything is wrong, so if Dixie's behavior continues to concern you, please have her examined as soon as convenient. I recommend taking diamond to a veterinarian due to her young age. It is possible diet or parasites are causing the constipation and painful rectum. Unfortunately their are not great ways to fix this without a veterinarians help.

If Brandy can't poop and is throwing up, I would be concerned she could have a foreign body. Without seeing her in person, I can't say for certain what's causing her symptoms, and I feel she needs to see a vet as soon as possible. I would take her into a vet today. Best of luck.

These are not normal symptoms associated with being in heat, so I would be concerned about some other illness. If she hasn't eaten in several days and is still vomiting, I would recommend taking her to the emergency vet. She is likely very dehydrated at this point, and we need to figure out what is causing the nausea.

I am very sorry to hear that Lelani has been so unwell. It sounds as though she is on a great treatment Plan. It can be normal for some constipation to follow a gastrointestinal upset. I would continue to monitor her at home for a few hours. If by the end of the day she still hasn't had a bowel movement, or if she seems in pain or lethargic I Would take her back into the veterinarian. The concern is for a foegein body obstruction. But because she seems happy and active it is less likely.
