My dog in heat has warm groin and severe constipation. Is this normal?

Hormonal changes can sometimes cause changes to the GI tract. I would keep an eye on Diamond and if she doesn't have a bowel movement in a few days, has other signs of illness, or seems in distress, schedule a visit with your vet.

Hello. Generally, if there is some obstruction, a pet will be very painful in their abdomen often accompanied by vomiting or retching, loss of appetite, lethargy & possibly bloating. A constipated dog will spend much time hunched up as if trying to have a bowel movement or there can actually be pooching of the anal region. If Dixie seems to have a fairly normal appetite, there is no vomiting, & her vulva is swollen, then she is probably just coming into heat. Your veterinarian can determine very quickly if anything is wrong, so if Dixie's behavior continues to concern you, please have her examined as soon as convenient. Offer her more water. Yiu can mix it with equal parts of unflavored PediaLyte. Plain, canned pumpkin (NOT pie filling) may also help get things moving again. Mix in a half teaspoon with her meals. If symptoms persist or worsen, have her seen by your veterinarian.

I would not be overly concerned about the single episode of vomiting/hard stool and would advise a bland diet of chicken and rice for 2-3days to see if the bowel issue resolves. I would howver be concerned about a heat cycle that has persisted for 7weeks+ and would recommend a check up with your vet tomorrow to rule out infection or other medical complications. I would recommend neutering her unless you have a need to breed from her in at the next heat cycle as excessive blood loss could become a significant issue with each cycle

Poor Rea! I recommend to call your veterinarian and tell them what you are seeing. Constipation is not common in dogs and can actually be diarrhea. Additionally, constipation is not expected to be related to temperature and may be a completely different problem. You need to make sure Rea has access to air conditioning or other cooling measures. She also needs an area with plenty of shade and water. If Brandy can't poop and is throwing up, I would be concerned she could have a foreign body. Without seeing her in person, I can't say for certain what's causing her symptoms, and I feel she needs to see a vet as soon as possible. I would take her into a vet today. Best of luck.

Poor girl. I am concerned that Nancy may have an infection. I highly recommend having her seen by your vet right away to get her checked out. This does not sound like normal behavior during a normal menstrual cycle. I do hope that Nancy is going to be ok moving forward. Best of luck and take care.
