Is my dog pregnant at 6 weeks? Not showing, vomiting, off food.

Two possibilities exist here, one she is pregnant or two she is sick. If you are not feeling puppies kicking in her belly and she is puking and acting ill, then she could have a serious condition called Pyometra (spontaneously infected uterus). This will cause swelling of the belly almost overnight and cause the pet to have a fever (> 102.5 degree Fahrenheit rectal temperature), vomit, decreased appetite and lethargy. If Karma is vomiting occasionally, then it might just be "morning sickness" from pregnancy. If she is vomiting consistently throughout the day and isn't keeping food down, this is concerning. Typically nausea during pregnancy is over by 4 weeks, but it is possible to last a bit longer. However, if this continues there may be another cause. You can try giving a small meal right before bed, and consider trying a bland diet like white rice and boiled chicken for a few days to see if that helps. Hello, It's possible that Belea is pregnant, but I also worry that she could have an infected uterus (pyometra) that could also cause her to have a decreased appetite. Pyometra is a surgical emergency and requires very different care than a normal pregnancy. I'd recommend taking her to her veterinarian. They can confirm a pregnancy or uterine problem with imaging. It does sound like from your description that Shiloh could be pregnant again. The best way to confirm this is to take her into the vet for an exam. If you have an idea of when she was mated, then the vet can run tests to get a closer approximation of how far along she is in the pregnancy. For example, a blood test looking for the hormone relaxin can be done starting at 22 days gestation. If she is further along in the pregnancy, then x-rays and an ultrasound can be done. Given her age, I would start saving now for the chance she may need a c-section. That's because older dogs can have more difficulties giving birth due to age, and it's best to be prepared for that now both financially and emotionally. I would also recommend getting her spayed after this litter. It's never recommended to breed dogs older than 6-7 years of age, and spaying her would prevent future litters from happening, as well as eliminating the possibility of a pyometra (a life threatening infection of the uterus). I would take Shiloh into the vet tomorrow for an exam :-)

Vomiting and discharge are not normal symptoms of pregnancy in a dog and may indicate infection. I would not generally increase feeding guidelines until the last 2 weeks or if weight loss develops, the majority of energy demands for growth are the last 2 weeks of pregnancy and peak milk development. Obesity should be avoided as it can cause complications in itself

There is always a possibility of any female dog who is not spayed for pregnancy. I recommend to have your pup examined by the veterinarian. She looks small and so it would be recommended to take a radiograph to see if puppies are present or not. Small breed dogs are more prone to problems giving birth so it is important to know how many puppies to expect. She likely is not caught up on vaccines or anything either if you have not had her examined yet so you need to discuss the preventive care that she needs to keep her and the puppies healthy if she is pregnant. Poor Princess! She could be pregnant but she could also have something else going on like parasites, eating something she shouldn’t, a bacterial infection or even a viral infection. You can try to offer her some plain chicken (no bones) and white rice to see if you can entice her to eat. If she doesn’t perk up soon, I would have your vet take a look at her. I worry she is going to get dehydrated. Your vet will be able do a fecal, blood work and even X-rays if needed. Your vet will be able to assess her hydration and give her fluids if needed. Your vet will be able to get her started on some meds that are safe for puppies in case she is pregnant to help make her feel better. I hope this helps!
