My dog hit his head playing. Is it a concussion? What should I do?

Hello. Max may have really bruised his head, or may even have a mild concussion. You will need to decide if his behavior is really strange & worrisome & this warrants an emergency visit. If he just shakes his head every so often & otherwise seems fine, then he should be OK. IF kismet is eating,drinking, being active and using the restroom I would just recommend monitoring her closely at home. We do not typically diagnose concussions in veterinary medicine. Typically if a dog hits there head they are fine. My only concern with a chihuahua is that they can still have a open spot on there head. If they hit this region it can cause a seizure. If you feel like Kismet is acting lethargic or having seizure activity I would recommend taking her to an emergency clinic for observation. Other wise just monitor at home

Vomiting after an head trauma might be concerning. I recommend to bring her to the vet for a physical and neurological examinations to exclude brain damages (i.e. concussion). Please post again on the forum if you would like to discuss it further. I hope my answer was helpful.

Poor little Reggie. Since he's acting normally, I'd keep an eye on him for now. If you notice him getting dizzy again, has blood coming from his nose or ears, confusion, disorientation, difficulty walking, or abnormal eye movements, have him seen by a vet immediately. Otherwise, he should be ok.

Head trauma is always a cause for concern. Since this happened yesterday, there should have been some improvement with your pup if he suffered an injury such as a mild concussion. Sleeping a lot is not so much of a concern since young puppies normally sleep most of the day, but if you also see signs such as unresponsiveness, a head tilt, circling while walking, unequal pupil size, twitching of the eyes, ataxia (wobbly gait) or [vomiting](https://www.petcoach.co/dog/condition/vomiting-1/) then he should be [seen by a veterinarian immediately](https://www.petcoach.co/article/how-to-handle-a-pet-emergency/). If there is a bump, it may be a seroma (blood filled sac). This can treated by your veterinarian by either draining the area or trying a veterinary anti-inflammatory medication.
