My dog was hit by another dog. She seems fine, should I see a vet?

Hello. Make sure the color of her gums & mucous membranes keep a nice pink color. Observe her breathing at rest & while sleeping. If her respirations are 30 breaths per minute or less while she is sleeping, & her gums remain nice & pink, for the next 24 hours, she will be fine. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Max! It's a good sign that he ate and drank. It's hard to say if he will be fine with out examining him. Sometimes internal injuries do not show up right away, things like internal bleeding in the chest or belly, bruising on the lungs (contusions), abnormal air around the lungs (pneumothorax), diaphragmatic hernias, trauma to the urinary bladder. The obvious outward signs like a broken bone, wounds, back or head trauma you would have seen right away. I would rest him and keep him calm. Watch for increased and labored breathing, no urine production, lethargy and pale gums. He will likely be sore tomorrow. If anything changes he should be taken to an emergency hospital. It isn't wrong to have him checked out now and get pain medications in case he is sore tomorrow. I hope this helps and I wish Max the very best!

If Ellie landed on her feet and is walking and acting fine, then it would be ok to monitor for now and bring her to the veterinarian if you notice any lameness or any abnormalities like loss of appetite or something like that. However, if she landed on her head then it would be best to have her examined by a veterinarian to make sure she is ok since she is so small. Good luck and have a good night! I always advise that if an abnormal sign or behavior persists, worsens or other signs develop to always have your pet evaluated by your veterinarian right away. The fall may have caused some soft tissue/bone injuries or even internal injuries that are causing her problems. Also, she could be suffering from something unrelated to the fall. Your vet can examine her after gathering a history and then advise you on diagnostics/treatment. Possible tests include fecal/blood/urine tests and x-rays. Good luck

Ouch, poor Mimi! Given that she's been acting normally and sleeping since, I would not be worried about it. It probably hurt her and startled her to get hit, but if she was seriously injured, there would be signs such as abnormal behavior, difficulty walking, and blood from her nose among others. She's likely fine, but if you are very concerned, it's certainly ok to have her checked out by a vet :-)
