My pet has HGE symptoms. Should I wait for the vet or go now?

It sounds like Ginger is in need of some vet care sooner than later. She's an older girl and we don't want her to dehydrate anymore than she already has. I would get her into the vet this evening if possible. With tomorrow being Easter, it is going to be emergency hours everywhere regardless, so waiting until tomorrow will not help you from a financial standpoint. Hope this makes sense.

It really depends how bad his condition is, if he is very lethargic, barely walking and vomiting very often then you should take him to the emergencies right away, if he is not too lethargic and not vomiting non stop then you can wait until the morning. do not feed him anymore, just leave water available but no food until you manage to get him to the vet.

Yes. I would definitely take him to an emergency clinic immediately. Hemorrhagic gastroenteritis can come on very quickly and dogs can become very sick in a few hours. My best advice is to be persistent with questions you have and make sure they get answered. ER and ICU vets are usually busy and preoccupied with their patients, but be sure to ask if you don't understand something explained or ask to have it explained again. I would want to understand why they think HGE occurred in Sancho, what they are currently doing and why, and what outlook does this have given Sancho's response to treatment? What are possible outcomes? For example they did a blood transfusion, I, as an owner would want to know why and what are the chances of this treatment being successful? What occurs if the transfusion is not successful? I hope this helps put your mind in the right direction. Thanks again for posting!

That's a good question. If she continues to eat and drink with no signs of vomiting, acting lethargic or very tired, then you can likely wait until Monday. If you see signs of blood in the stool or she starts straining defecate without passing any stool, then I would take her to an emergency veterinarian.

Hi. It sounds like little Hrafna isn't doing well. She could have an infection, a congenital defect, and much more. I wouldn't wait until Tuesday to have her seen. I would find a local animal ER to have her examined and some diagnostics done. They will most likely start with an exam, lab work, and possible x-rays to help point us in a direction of a diagnosis.
