My dog has bloody diarrhea after dental. Should I go to ER vet?

Unfortunately, bloody diarrhea often does not respond to at home treatment and may require a trip to your veterinarian. Since your veterinarian is likely closed today, you can certainly try a bland diet of 1/2 cooked white rice and 1/2 cooked white meat chicken (no skin or bones). If the bloody diarrhea continues with this diet, I would contact your veterinarian tomorrow. If Gumbo becomes lethargic, does not want to eat or the bloody diarrhea worsens, I would have him evaluated today. Good luck! Poor dog. Bloody loose stool is called hemorrhagic gastroenteritis (HGE) and is commonly caused by stress on the GI tract, although other possibilities are still possible. Which is why it is always recommended to get your pet checked by your veterinarian for a full exam, to make sure they are stable. And then the pet is typically prescribed an antibiotic (i.e. Metronidazole) and a probiotic to help the pet recover from this episode. Care has to be taken in the future to avoid stressful events, and also to limit food changes that can upset the GI (gastrointestinal) tract again, causing another bout of HGE. Dusty needs to go to an emergency clinic right away tonight. This could be hemorrhagic gastroenteritis, heavy intestinal parasite burden, or some of his bowel dying for some reason. Either way, this is a very serious issue and could be life threatening if not treated. It sounds as Dahlia is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an antibiotic course and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

This problem is likely to be related to a colitis (inflammation of the last part of the intestine). It is quite common and usually dietary related. It is nothing to be extremely worried about unless signs of lethargy and vomiting are noticed. Hydration is usually not an big concern at this stage as there may be a mild dehydration but not clinically significant at this stage. Poor guy. No this isn't normal for a diabetic dog to all of a sudden have signs of hemorrhagic gastroenteritis (bloody stool). Toby needs to see a vet right away for antibiotics, probiotics, and also an full examination to make sure no blood disorder is the cause of this. This is very concerning. A problem called HGE or hemorrhagic gastroenteritis could be what is going on. This can be life threatening. I would highly encourage you to have her evaluated by a veterinarian immediately. They will probably recommend running some blood work and possibly some x-rays to determine a diagnosis.
