Is it normal for my dog to go into heat more than twice a year?

That is unusual behavior for a dog but I do not suspect it is related to her mentally thinking she is in heat. That being said, dogs can have a heat cycle if they were not spayed properly or if they have too many ovaries. Your veterinarian can preform a simple blood test to determine if ovarian tissue is present. Next time she exhibits these symptoms, have her seen while she is showing signs as a blood test is more likely to find evidence of ovaries if they are present. That will at least rule that out. Hi, it is probably better to have her checked over. Sometimes it can be secondary to hormonal fluctuations and changes in the uterus over the course of the years. However, best to be on the safer side and have a check up to make sure that she is not becoming anaemic and that the bleeding is not secondary to something else more concerning .

This is a bit early for Janie to have another heat cycle, and my question would be: Are you sure it's a heat cycle? There could be a possibility that any discharge you are seeing is due to a pyometra. This is an infection of the uterus that is fatal without treatment, and is a medical emergency. To be safe, I think it's best for her to be checked out by a vet now. If she does have a pyometra, spaying her is part of the recommended treatment. Best of luck.

Dogs come into heat every 6 months, on average. It is best to wait until Rosie is almost 2 years old prior to breeding her. Younger dogs tend to be a bit immature and have more difficulty caring for puppies.

I would not be overly concerned about the single episode of vomiting/hard stool and would advise a bland diet of chicken and rice for 2-3days to see if the bowel issue resolves. I would howver be concerned about a heat cycle that has persisted for 7weeks+ and would recommend a check up with your vet tomorrow to rule out infection or other medical complications. I would recommend neutering her unless you have a need to breed from her in at the next heat cycle as excessive blood loss could become a significant issue with each cycle
