My dog has hair loss from an old wound. Will the fur grow back?

Unfortunately there isn't anything that can help the fur to regrow. You can try some omega 3 fatty acids or fish oil. If the hairloss hasn't been seen by a vet recently I would have your vet take a look at it to ensure it isn't a thyroid problem or something else. If it is truly just due to the injury, you can put some baby sunscreen on her to prevent any burns if she has light colored skin. Most dark colored skin will not burn. I hope this helps!

It sounds like your dog has a skin infection so he should be examined by a vet to determine the exact cause. It could be secondary to an injury or possibly allergies. He may need an oral antibiotic and an anti-inflammatory to help treat the problem.

You will need to wait until the wound heals properly. You can put cod liver oil ointment, or Vitamin E ointment on the CLEAN wound area in order to help the skin regenerate. As for hair growth, time will tell, if there is any growth at all (it is possible that this will never grow back). You can feed Vitamin H (Biotin) to help with hair growth. This will also help with hoof quality.

What you are describing sounds like scar tissue, but I would have to see it to be sure. Scars will not grow hair, but tend to get smaller and less visible with time. Puppies will heal better than adult dogs, so the scar should be much less obvious within a couple of months. Oh no. Poor guy. It sounds like the hair follicles are in permanent resting phase after the shave. The only thing you can really try here would be Melatonin. It can take up to 3 months however, to see any growth after starting this supplement. Talk to your vet about proper dosing for Lily since we legally cannot tell you that information here, but it is worth a shot. I would also bathe LIly regularly and brush the area with a soft brush often to hopefully stimulate the hair follicles to regrow. I hope that Lily gets her beautiful coat back. Oh no, I'm so sorry Phyno got into a fight with another dog! Yes, the fur can grow back where he has the scar. In areas where there are incisions from surgery, the fur does go back. I would recommend having him seen by a vet, however, as he could have suffered internal injuries from the fight and he should be checked out by a vet to make sure he is ok.
