Dog fight scars: Will my dog's fur grow back where he lost fur?

Unfortunately there isn't anything that can help the fur to regrow. You can try some omega 3 fatty acids or fish oil. If the hairloss hasn't been seen by a vet recently I would have your vet take a look at it to ensure it isn't a thyroid problem or something else. If it is truly just due to the injury, you can put some baby sunscreen on her to prevent any burns if she has light colored skin. Most dark colored skin will not burn. I hope this helps!

What you are describing sounds like scar tissue, but I would have to see it to be sure. Scars will not grow hair, but tend to get smaller and less visible with time. Puppies will heal better than adult dogs, so the scar should be much less obvious within a couple of months. Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do to encourage hair growth in this area if it is a scar. It's also possible that the lump is due to a deep infection. If the lump grows, appears red, or starts to ooze fluid, then it's best to take her to the vet for an exam. I hope that helps and all is well with your pup.

Yes, it will grow back again. All the scratches seem to be superficial so disinfection will be possibly enough and can be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Hello, I am so glad that you rescued this pup as it does look like an incredibly cruel person did this to him. With time, the hair should come back, but you can gently rub a little vitamin E oil & a little aloe vera onto the skin to help. There is no promises that this will help, but hopefully you will start seeing some hairs coming back soon. They may be white, too, & not necessarily black hairs because of the damage that could have been done to the hair follicles. I am afraid I will need a bit more information from you such as what nature the wound was, where it was, how it was treated, was the dog seen by a vet and which medications did the vet proscribe. I need to know where the hair loss is, and whether it is symmetrical and what the skin in the hairless area looks like. And it would help if you could formulate a question. It looks as though Danny has a skin infection in that area. Your veterinarian will be able to prescribe topical and oral antibiotics that will help treat the infection, allow the skin to heal and the hair to grow back.

You are right there can be injuries to the neck you can't see through the fur. The little one could have been bitten around the neck, and a bite from another dog can lead to an infection in this area. You can try to shave around the area to see if there is a bite mark, and if there is, I would gently clean the area with warm water and an antiseptic soap. Monitor the area for signs of swelling, redness, warmth to the touch, and pus. These are signs of infection, and if you see them, you will need to take him into the vet for an exam. If he won't allow you to shave the area and becomes very agitated, then I would take him into the vet to have the area shaved and examined.
